Double Chromium bump – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1916.3
-
Today’s snapshot moves our snapshot stream to Chromium 83. With such a big engine upgrade, expect some regressions.

First?
New flags in chrome 83:
#sharing-qr-code-generator (doesn't work in vivaldi yet)
#enable-ftp (it's not gone fully yet)
#enable-web-bluetooth-new-permissions-backend (more permissions - but I've yet to see a website wanting to use bluetooth)
#pdf-two-up-view (this works very well)
#remote-copy-image-notification (no idea what this one is, but sounds interesting)
#password-check, #password-change-support (Says "for signed in users"- I assume this means signed in to a google account)
#export-tagged-pdf (print to searchable PDF - finally!)
#color-provider-redirection (?)
#trust-tokens - maybe an end to captchas, but not an end to gatekeepers
#media-history (?)
google continues to be inspired by vivaldi with #tab-groups- related flags and #focus-mode -
Disabling check for updates for this Snapshot might avoid some threads about broken media playback.
Regression: The stray icon in the clock dialog has reappeared. Reported as VB-67552
- Sortable list keyboard navigation not working in settings popup (VB-67351) (I don't understand what this is)
My bug report was for mouse gestures. That is still broken:
(VB-67265) Add Mouse Gesture Command Selection Droplist Broken
(VB-67325) Unable to Delete Search Engine is now fixed
-
@pesala: the stray time icon is known as VB-67436
-
Disabling check for updates for this Snapshot might avoid some threads about broken media playback.
@pesala: Yes that is why we did that and listed it in the known issues before the snapshot went live
-
@Ruarí Yes, I posted about it here to try to avoid some threads/posts about “Why is check for udates not working?”
Moving Update Notification to the General category was a good move.

[Media][Windows] Add proprietary media availability detection and warning to users running Windows N-versions (VB-62670)
Is this just a warning that "codecs are missing" or is a download link provided (e.g. Windows Media Player)?
-
Thanks for the update, nice timing! I can deal with the video issues, hope it's fixed soon though.
[Media][Windows] Add proprietary media availability detection and warning to users running Windows N-versions (VB-62670)
Very much needed!
-
@tbgbe: At the moment it is a popup warning that states
This Windows N edition lacks the media package to play HTML5 'proprietary' media (H.264/AAC).
We may change it further in the future but that is all it says for now.
-
@Ruarí it's still better than nothing You could simply add "Consider installing it from microsoft.com to be able to play HTML5 content".
You can bet most users don't even know what the current message means. -
[Blocker] Importing locally stored tracking/adblocking lists fails (VB-66311)
[Settings] Move Updates into General settings category (VB-67185)Very nice. Thanks for the update!
-
After deleting all Sync-Data on the Server and new registration to Sync the button "ok" with the sync-encription-password is broken
Edit: Sorry, finally ok.
-
[Settings] Move Updates into General settings category (VB-67185)
Nice. I'd move network too
-
@hadden89: How did I not think of this before. A bit of a shame that the category glyphs would go unused though (including the updates one). After all, time was spent in making them.
-
@Ruarí Maybe include a link to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3145500/media-feature-pack-list-for-windows-n-editions (Note: Windows 7 N not mentioned there).

@altcode: Yes?

@AltCode he's right, it's his first comment in here.

With 83 going stable in 4 days, this is going to be a tough one to turn around without skipping a cycle (84 is due in two months). No time for any new features, just fixes.
