Vivaldi 3.0 RC 2 – Vivaldi Desktop Browser snapshot 1874.15
-
There's an argument to be made here, a good one, given the upset in the Chromium release schedule and the number of flies in the ointment that people have been talking about even in the RC stages, that 3.0 is pushed out to the Chromium 83 time-frame, which is a mere 30 days from today.
This would allow you to cruise in over the next month, with the only thing to do being putting out new Chromium 83-based snapshots and further bug fixes.
Circumstances have made this the perfect time to do this. Or, you could go the route it's pushed tomorrow and there's much wailing as we go to an extended series of bug-swatting minor updates.
Which way is more optimal?

@rseiler Trust in God and the developers. It's their project.

@kahukura I don't think God can debug Vivaldi, let's stick to real matters and trust just the devs

The fix did not work. We are now looking for the first build this got introduced. Anyone? 1862.3 crashed for me while 1854.5 did not.
-
@jon That really only leaves one more possible build:

@Pathduck , thanks. We did some investigation and we think we now know which build broke it. 1855.11, which is one of the internal builds. We make builds for every change we do and that is the first build we managed to reproduce the bug for. We are now investigating whether we can find a safe fix.

(VB-64179) When I start Vivaldi, the browser shows an empty menu.Unfortunately, this bug is still there. It's really annoying. It's caused by a bug in the notes parser. When I delete the Notes file in the user directory, everything works just fine. This doesn't happen in version 2.11.
I hope for a fix until 3.0 final comes out. Thanks.

@Pesala why not in the snapshot? isn't this testing branch to check bugs and get users reviews.
-
-
@EvilSpark Because we are on Release Candidate snapshots where feature are not added but only severe bugs are handled before the stable.
@Igor_VL
You broke the screen, butif some ads are not blocked you maybe need some more RU adblocker lists -

Snapshots are for testing, and if such a change as the one suggested by you (or the feature request linked by @Pesala) was added it would be added to a snapshot first.
However, the current snapshots are Release Candidates (RC). This means that these snapshots might be released as stable versions unless any ugly bugs are encountered. Therefore, no new features will be added until the next stable release.
As soon as Vivaldi 3.0 is out and Vivaldi returns to normal snapshots new features, or changes to existing ones, will start to be introduced again.

You broke the screen, but if some ads are not blocked you maybe need some more RU adblocker lists
I have included:
EasyPrivacy
EasyList
RU AdList -
- Check adblocker settings: if Yandex is on exceptions also its ads are allowed.
- Here you can find several useful lists to add.
[Pete's one and Unbreak may help. I don't see ads on yandex] - If you still see RU ads, report to list mainteiners

@Hadden89 This script is indispensable "RU AdList JS Fixes"

I can reproduce the hang on https://yandex.ru/portal/video (and other sides). Very annoying.

Looks like we found a fix to the hang. There should be a new build with the fix tomorrow.
-
@Komposten ohh. Didn't knew
-
@mozzer: I tested on the pages mentioned above, but couldn't reproduce the issue.
So, I tried out a page which I stumble upon some time ago, that runs four 1080p 60fps videos at once on auto-play.
Vivaldi, with and without Hardware Acceleration, maximized the CPU usage, while Brave and Chrome reached a peak of ~50% usage but then dropped to ~30% usage
Also, even maximizing CPU usage, the videos started stuttering but Vivaldi didn't freeze. The page I've used: https://www.brazdzn.com/itens
CPU: i5 6400
OS: Win 10 64bits -
I sure hope that after the 3.0 release, the team will finally get around to dealing with the backlog of various requests. There is so much to do, so much to see.
