Opera Link is officially gone as of December 2015

Just a heads up for Opera 12 users: Opera Link doesn't work anymore. (The server is still up but seems to be in some sort of read-only mode now.) I was very skeptical of cloud features when it was introduced years ago: "There is no way to specify a server. What if they discontinue the service and I depend on it?" Later I gave in for the convenience. Now it looks like I was right from the beginning and it bites. Good thing, that I will never trust a closed source browser again. Edit: Opera Software announced the offcial termination of Opera Link (see last posting)

Sorry but this what has to do with Closed Source?

It was possible to set a local server for Sync (intended for business environments), but don't ask me the details for the service itself.
opera:config#OperaSync|SyncDataProvider

@Gwen-Dragon:
Opera Link has not been working stable and correctly for Opera Mini and Opera 12 since years.
The Opera "technology" following, known as Opera Sync, does not work since month or over a year, too.
What Opera calls sync now is not very useful, and Sync of login data i not reliable because of Chromiums OS login enrcyption and storage specifics.
I abandoned Sync on Opera browsers.Dont wait for something like working Opera Link or Sync. Or you like to be a betatesting slave on Opera ASA servers and loosing data.
BTW operalink still works for me, and the new sync now works too, although in a different way than the good old operalink. Trusting it and what is done with the personal data is a different matter.

I don't think this setting does anything.

I deleted the old Opera account and created a new one and Link seems to work again. Let's see how longβ¦

E-Mail just arrived:
It's time to say goodbye to our old friend Opera Link. In March, we introduced a new way to sync data in the latest versions of Opera for computers, Android, and iOS. The shift to our new syncing service allowed us to streamline and update the types of browsing data you can sync across your computers, phones and tablets. **Opera Link will close in December 2015.** At that time, you will no longer be able to synchronize your browsing data using the Opera Link service. Also, you will no longer be able to access your data through the Opera Link web interface at [ link.opera.com ]( http://r.mails.opera.com/8ro3ri4bxadu9nd.html ). December brings the end of Opera Link, but not the end of syncing your data using your favorite browser. Download the new Opera, and, depending on your devices, you can sync your bookmarks, Speed Dials, open tabs, browsing history, settings and passwords. Making the switch is easy: 1\. Navigate to [ www.opera.com ]( http://r.mails.opera.com/8ro3ri4cpqdu9nd.html ) to download and install a new Opera browser. 2\. Use your Opera Link username and password to sign into the new sync service, or set up a new account entirely. You can read more about how at [ www.opera.com/help/account#signIn ]( http://r.mails.opera.com/8ro3ri4di6du9nd.html ). 3\. After you've registered your new account, use our migration tool to move your old Opera Link bookmarks to your new browser. You can find the tool at [ sync.opera.com/web/ ]( http://r.mails.opera.com/8ro3ri4eamdu9nd.html ). If you can not upgrade to the new browser or do not wish to, your local data will remain on your machine but will not update on the Opera Link server. We recommend that you migrate your bookmarks, so you can still access them through our new service's web interface. You can find the migration tool at [ sync.opera.com/web/ ]( http://r.mails.opera.com/8ro3ri4f32du9nd.html ). We hope you enjoy the updated set of syncing services offered in our newest generation of browsers. Thanks for choosing Opera, The Sync team
Just as with My Opera: Very short notice, just a week ahead.
My comment: No, I'm not going to use Opera Sync. I'm never going to use any future Opera software product.
Any ideas how to replace the sync servers using opera:config?
