Blocked sites information – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1862.3

@Folgore101
as some more vivaldi users have the same problem ( @Ornorm @baris-sehri), it seems not to be a profile thing, but thanks anywaysomeone mentioned in one of the last snapshot news, that Vivaldi should publish an article, how the blocker works.
my question is: if I enable the adblocker from the badge attranslate.google.be
, does it work only for this site or does it work for*.google.be
? and what is the better approach? the the desired behavior depends from user to user -
Markdown button in the Notes is broken now. Nothing changes after pressing it.
-
@Ornorm
Happen on latest snapshot (where I'm testing the adblocker) don't happen on RC snapshot (where I use Ubo).
Worth reporting that.
Fun fact: Don't happen onplay.google.com
even ifplay.google.com
trackers are blocked.- Adblocker off: Everything is permitted to/from
google.be
- Adblocker on: Follow the ruleset.
I'm pretty sure the adblocker will "simply" fetch the rules; acting in a different way would be probably unwanted and will make harder to understand if a ruleset is valid or not, especially as we haven't logs or "advanced options".
However, a page reload is probably need.what is the better approach? the the desired behavior depends from user to user
The current one as a default. Otherwise Vivaldi will "hijack" the lists.

@Pesala,
is wrong.
restart vivaldi, the bookmark panel is NOT displayed!
and in addition: with the mouse you have to send the menu command (Menu/View/View bookmark-panel) twice - to make the panel visible again. With keyboard (strg-shift-B) it is usually more direct (1x).
What a crazy - and so unnecessary bug! -

- Adblocker on: Follow the ruleset.
that's right, but how do I know as user, what's the ruleset for the domain? I've enabled 2 lists. Do I have to check them manually? Especially for google it's pretty hard to check all the rulesets in all filterlists.
So for now I don't know if any subdomain is also affected or not? (except I check the rulesets) -
@dremlon The Bookmark Panel is not the Bookmarks Bar. The Bookmarks Tab (Ctrl+Shift+B) is something else again. Vivaldi provides several ways of using and managing bookmarks. The Bookmarks Bar is best for using, the Bookmarks Panel is best for organising them. I rarely use the Bookmarks Tab, but that might be more powerful for organising bookmarks.
Please check and try again.
-
@derDay For the moment a manual check is the only way.
Making "browsable" the blocked elements would nice, I agree. -
@Pesala,
there's nothing to retest, what for?!
ctrl+shift+B clearly and unquestionably indicates what is meant. That's all it needs. Then call it 'bookmarks bar' or whatever (are more of a semantic quibble). What was meant is "ctrl+shift+B". As written.
and that is reproducibly broken. An unnecessary bug, actually.ps: bookmark-bar is useful for e.g. fixed bookmarks that are called over and over again, test page(s) or IP or weather as you like.

Firstly, so that you know what we're talking about, and secondly so that we know what you're experiencing, which you think is a bug. It is not a semantic quibble. If you use the wrong terminology it will only lead to confusion.
Ctrl+Shift+B is the default shortcut to open the Bookmarks Tab. Unless you have set Vivaldi to Startup with Last Session, one would not expect the Bookmarks Tab to reopen on restart. It is by design, not a bug at all.
There is no default shortcut for the Bookmarks Panel. I have assigned Ctrl+1.

Is there a way to use "file://" URLs for our own lists in the content blocker?
I tried one file but failed to "download" it - but still added it to the list with a "not downloaded" state.I assume such a file would use the standard Adblock rules?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Thanks! Apparently, once again I'm bloody blind, I didn't notice the file button :smiling_face_with_open_mouth_closed_eyes:
But my excuse is it seems to be bugged here, it shows as blank white:
So I guess I should report that one, seems it uses the "foreground" theme colour for the folder SVG.
-
@derDay My interpretation is that with the dark grey shaded shield icon (your upper window), the site itself hasn't finished loading and once that's completed you'll get the "flash shield" icon with the tracking protection detailed (your lower window).
That only seems to work with absolutely new sites, once the site is in cache the dark grey shaded icon doesn't appear anymore. -
@frommhold
perhaps it's a combination from both things. When I took the screenshot, the upper window had the website open since minutes.
As mentioned (and you too) , sometimes I get the flashed shield immediately at new websitesI think, I wait for a further snapshot and see, how the blocker/icon behave then

Incorrect.
Ctrl+B
is the default shortcut for the Bookmarks Tab.Ctrl+Shift+B
is the default shortcut for the Bookmarks Bar, just as @dremlon said.(Verified this in my translation install of Vivaldi, which is virtually untouched and only used for translating.)
-
@ornorm: This would happen if the page keeps trying to load the same blocked URL. It can be the result of a script making a request regularly, waiting for it to succeed. To make sure that this is not an issue with the blocked trackers counter, you can check that it matches what actually happens by looking at the page with devtools.
-
@derday: Hey, do you have any extensions installed?
-
@Komposten Thanks. I changed my defaults.
All the more important to use the right terminology as shortcuts can be modified. @dremlon referred to the Bookmarks Panel, which has no default shortcut.
As I said earlier, the Bookmarks Bar does not disappear on restarting. It was hiding when I updated to the latest Snapshot.
-
@julien_picalausa Thanks. I checked and I found indeed several attemps in the Console :
I temporarily chose the "No Blocking" option to stop it and chose back "Block Trackers and Ads (Default)" and it stopped the attempts.
-
hey @Aronand
yes, uBlock Origin for example (but more others too) -
OMG, since when is this feature available?! absolut great! (fyi: Küche is my second vivaldi-profile )
but it only shows up in menu, when the second profile is open. Please add support also for closed profile and guest profile (that would be marvelous)
