Vivaldi Feature Request: Setting "Remember last download path"
-
Thanks for a great new browser! Feature Request: When downloading files from a website, e.g. bank statements, I often what to download many files to a specific destination folder. It would be very useful if the Vivaldi browser had a setting "Remember last download path". Currently, I always have start at the default download folder and tediously navigate to the destination folder for every single file. Best regards, roarking

There is a bug on this issue and it is high on our list as well.

Jon,
thank you! Ideally the browser would remember the last download path used on a particular website and offer it as default path when "Save as" is used in subsequent downloads from the same website. Downloads from bankxyz.com could then be saved to /home/roarking/banking/xyz/statements and Linux Mint ISOs to /home/roarking/linux/mint/iso without ever having to navigate in the directory tree again. I have not seen this feature in any browser I used and I believe it would save me a lot of time.

roarkingHello,
It's a cool idea !
As far as I know, Firefox makes it in some way. It remembers the "save as" path for each website or file type.
It remembers me the feature in late Opera which allowed to save directly some files by using the filetype association.
For example you set "jpg saved whitout prompt on images dir". -

I also requested before the remembering of location per file type in this thread:

+1 from me too
-
No need to +1 it anymore. It's in latest snapshot.
-
Has this been taken out again? I can't see it in 1.0.178.2 (Mac).
-
I don't think I've ever seen it.
To clarify, I've not seen a SETTING which says "remember last download location" although the option to select a folder in settings, to select a folder at time of download, and the setting to "always use default." have been there for more than one snapshot. The PROPERTY to remember a download location, I have not had the opportunity to test - because I hardly ever download anything and when I do, it's always to the desktop.
-
As per Christoph142's comment above, it was apparently available and hence my question.
-
I don't think it was available as a setting - though perhaps as a property, which I have not had occasion to test. To the best of my knowledge, we have had no regressions in download capabilities.

Not sure if this is the same issue or a related one.
When I click on a link for a download and select Save, it saves to my default download directory, but if I click on Save As, it saves to the most recently selected directory. This seems a bit inconsistent. I expected that the two would be in sync. What I wanted it to do was to save to the most recently selected directory.
