Blocker List Management – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1854.5
-
I've spotted three issues while importing trackers/ad block lists
First one: on the import dialog, if you click to select a file, and then cancel (or close the file explorer window), the import dialog will be closed
Second one: Trying to import this hosts file crashes Vivaldi https://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php?hostformat=hosts&showintro=1&mimetype=plaintext&_=5
A text explaining which formats are allowed and which aren't is a good idea, and if the user puts a wrong URL (such as that one), then Vivaldi shouldn't crash.Third one: On the import dialog, the "Import from a file" button has always white background, ignoring the browser's theme
-
Some strings created with ubo element picker are invalidated after import. Like: some_url###some_page_element
-
I was having the same issue with a different link, same list.
As @npro pointed out, you can use this link for that list
https://pgl.yoyo.org/adservers/serverlist.php?hostformat=adblockplus&showintro=1&mimetype=plaintext -
@Ruarí Displaying the status bars clock with a second hand would be very practical if the Vivaldi team would implement this.
See Feature Request:

@gabevilela For the third point i have already reported, it's the VB-64750.

Good. Once seen, information is acquired, remove the banner and get over with it.
Nobody needs to see it another time.Sometimes I close such things as I assume I can get them back if I needed them (ofc. in this case there's no need for me, but may be for others).

Thanks for giving the option to remove the giant store banner
As for the no hits for search in page it would be good if you also added a bit of subtle colour to make it even more obvious. I've used a custom CSS for this a long time now:
/* Use AccentBg color for no matches */ .find-in-page.fip-nomatches input[type="search"] { background: var(--colorAccentBg); }
-
@potmeklecbohdan Simply click on the 3 lines in the top left corner and you will find "Open Chrome Web Store".
Maybe in the current message you could indicate the previous path, so whoever closes the banner knows where to go to find "Open Chrome Web Store". -
@sjudenim: Yeah, I already knew that. Since it crashed with a hosts file, the next format I tried was Adblock plus format (since it is open source, and both Chromium Opera and Brave use it).
I only hope they add support to more formats in the future, and they also explain how the ad block is working under the hood -

I only hope they add support to more formats in the future, and they also explain how the ad block is working under the hoodThe hosts filterlist files are meant to replace (or better copy-paste their contents) your OS host file located for example in %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc\ or similar places in Windows, so that they work globally on a lower level, before any browser, it doesn't have anything to do with the adblocking extensions.

This is where you can find all the ublock lists (remember to use the raw text link)
https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/tree/master/filtersThis is this one you want
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/uBlockOrigin/uAssets/master/filters/unbreak.txtBut I'm finding some things have spaces and block text rather than how uBo displays the same pages
-
[Address Bar] If Blocking Level is globally set to "No Blocking," remove the shield icon (VB-?????)

@zakius I highly doubt it wll reach the "complexity" of an ublock origin/umatrix if this is what you mean, but it is already an excellent start.
Agreed, for what it's worth. People who do complex things with an ad blocker might not be the target audience.
For instance I have AdBlock Plus and I don't remember changing it at all from its defaults, and I'm happy enough with what it does for me. I'd be happy just to have that level of things built-in rather than an extension.

@sjudenim
The unbreak list import crash Vivaldi.
Guess is the same issue of other lists. -
@Gwen-Dragon Tnx for the confirmation, I'd the (disabled) badware list which triggered the crash. The unbreak list is fine.
By the way, the import is not very satisfying: vivaldi rules (556), unsupported (874) -
No rush in getting this release out, since:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/google-pauses-chrome-and-chrome-os-releases-due-to-coronavirus-outbreakOTOH, they did pump out a security update for the existing version today: 80.0.3987.149.

Thanks for all the work. Please add an option to always open a link in the same tab. Maybe as a mouse shortcut. Thanks.
Right-click -> Open Link
always opens in the same tab. Would be more convenient if it was possible to bind this to left click/middle click (I think there is a feature request here on the forum for that), but at least it works this way. -
@npro: Sure, you can use the OS's hosts file, but that brings another problem, it will be applied in EVERY application (which can break stuff), plus, once a page show loading problems due to ad blocking, disabling the ad block on that page is easy and fast, but remove the properly line in hosts file? I don't think so
So, yeah, if uBlock Origins (probably the most respected ad blocking extension out there) have support for hosts file, it sure has to do with ad blocking tools.
I personally don't use any "hosts format only" list, but having more options = better -
@pathduck: Good suggestion, although this might not always be the right colour - i.e. my accents right now are in blue.
