Not without more information. Have never seen this phenomenon, and can't imagine offhand what might trigger it.

Can anyone explain why the browsers disappears from the screen even thought it is still running? …
I'm not sure quite what you mean, but I would point out that Vivaldi opens multiple processes upon being started up - at least one for Vivaldi itself, one for each extension, and one for each tab. The idea is that a crash in one tab won't take down the other tabs or the browser itself.
However, if the main Vivaldi process crashes and ends, the other processes will often keep running, which can act to block Vivaldi from being restarted unless the others are also closed (via Task Manager). As to what crashes the main process, that remains a question… there have been a number of reports here about it occurring. (Usually by way of users complaining they're unable to restart Vivaldi, and finding out they have to close the orphaned other processes first.) This is still a tech preview version, and it has its bugs...

I've had the exact same problem. It's been occurring ever since I started using Vivaldi v.1.0.151.7. However the frequency of occurrence diminished as I installed new snapshots to the point I hadn't had the issue until a few minutes ago, with the the latest snapshot installed. I normally have about 3 tabs open, and all of a sudden Vivaldi disappears. It won't re-open. If there is something playing in one of the tabs such as a YouTube video, it just keeps on playing. If I open up Task Manager, there are like, 6 or 8 instances of the Vivaldi browser showing as running. I have to close it from Task Mgr, before the browser will completely shutdown and I can then re-open it. I'm on Windows 8, got 24GB RAM installed, using an Asus M5A99X motherboard with AMD Athlon II 450 Triple Core CPU. If any of that helps.

I'm hoping the OP will offer us some insight as to what they are doing, if anything, when this happens. One user last week or so, mentioned that leaving the machine unattended or leaving Vivaldi open for a long time in the background, would mean they would sometimes come back and find the Vivaldi UI gone, but all other instances of Vivaldi process running. That is the only such instance I have read, and there's no explanation for it.
On the other hand, if something crashes Vivaldi, it's a near certainly only the UI process will go down, and all other tab and support processes will stay live. (If I kill the oldest of these, all the rest vanish with it.) BUT - the OP gives us no hint if there is something being done which might crash the browser, or if this if happening unattended, or what. More needs to be known.

Your first post, so welcome!
Might be this. (?)
I'm not sure what triggered the window dislocation in my installation, but I suspect it was either one of the extensions I installed, a conflict between extensions, or simple too many extensions, as it occurred just after I tried installing this APNG extension in a standalone installation I've been using just for testing.
Edit: BTW, If you're using Technical Preview 2 (v.1.0.118.19), as most new users posting here are, try updating to the most recent Developer snapshot. There have been reports of previous Vivaldi versions crashing/disappearing upon changing tabs or opening a site in a new tab, but vivaldi.exe processes continuing and/or YouTube audio continuing.
Vivaldi is developing rapidly and there have been numerous bug fixes and feature improvements since Technical Preview 2. Developer snapshots since then have generally been as stable, if not more stable, than TP2.
Follow the Team Blog for weekly updates (usually on Mondays) and occasional mid-week updates.

I am not sure what causes the problem. The reason I first became aware that the browser was still running is that the youtube video will keep playing. But it also disappeared when youtube is not active. I am using the latest update 1.0.151.7 (Developer Build) .
-
I am not aware that I am doing anything unusual. Normally it happens after opening a new tab but sometimes it t just happens. The browser disappears from the screen but if youtube or another video is playing I continue to hear it.
The only way out is to close the browser using the task manager.

Hmm… That sounds a lot like the other reports with earlier Vivaldi versions I alluded to. If it happens to be 64-bit Vivaldi, you might try 32-bit Vivaldi as it is said to be better developed and more stable.
It also might be interesting and potentially informative to open Vivaldi's own Task Manager (Menu > Tools > Task Manager) and leave it open in the background to see (1) if it is still visible when the browser window disappears and if so, (2) whether it suggests/reveals anything.

I'm hoping the OP will offer us some insight as to what they are doing, if anything, when this happens.
Well sometimes the UI process will just be killed for a reason or another, but there are situations where this happens in a reproducible way
One of them is a big download.
Just start to download something big (say an iso file or a big service pack), then close Vivaldi.
Given the immature download behavior, the download process will continue in background until the download will be finished.
In the meantime you can't reopen Vivaldi, because the UI process starts only when no Vivaldi process are running.

A reliable crasher I've seen no one else mention can be done quite by accident, and it may be that the user doesn't even realize they have done it. If you press the left mouse button while hovering a "draggable" element like an image of some kind, drag it a short distance and then let go of the button, it will take the UI layer down every time, and leave the remaining Vivaldi processes running . I've done it two or three times now. If one has a bit of a tremor and slight visual impairment - as with advancing age, this sort of thing could happen to you often.

@ AgapeAll - is the issue described in this thread at all like what you're talking about?
@ Ayespy - I've never noticed that before now, but the crash that it causes looks exactly like the one in the above thread, and what it sounds like OP is seeing.
-
I'm glad to finally hear that I'm not the only person who's experienced that crash.
-
I don't think so. It does not happen when i switch programs. I normally have several program open but that does not seem to be the cause. It happens when I am within the browser..
I am using the 64 bit version.

It doesn't appear any attention is being given to this issue (at least I've not read anything in update blogs or otherwise). I've not read everything so perhaps I've missed something. I tried suggestions mentioned in this thread, but nothing helped. I decided to run the T2 x64 install again (as I earlier decided to and have been using the x32 iterations so far, because the x64 is always labeled "experimental"–I don't get that). I have NOT had a single occurrence of the issue since doing so. Not saying this resolved anything because it could show up tonight. But now I'm hesitant to install T3 Preview because if this behavior is a bug in one of the snapshot releases its likely still in there since the problem (from my installs) has been seen in every release up to this new T3 Preview. Heck, I'll probably try it, it's what I do.
UPDATE:
I did, it didn't stop the issue. My browser seems to work even better tho. Another respondant mentioned folk aren't providing any technical information (further down) about their configurations, activities, etc. I did include that info in my original post about this issue. If I need to be posting the issue to another place (Official Bug Report Submission) so Developers can see it/address it as a bug, someone please let me know where that is--and I'll gladly do that. -
To me this bug stopped after TP2. But I always start a new profile on new TP releases.

Hello,
Having this problem all the time now. Can't view any webinar, instruction video, etc. without the crash after about 2-3 minutes. I can still hear the sound from the video, but can not see the image. It is like it is on another non existing screen. Vivaldi is still running, but I have to kill it in task manager and start all over agan, then crash/duisappear after 2-3 minutes again. Can not use Vivaldi for this type of online videos anymore.
Win7 + 64 bit
Vivaldi 1.0.162.9 (Developer Build)
Revision 2cdaf3a806b2a96130422b734cdcddd8f5b135ddHope someone can fix this soon, annoying having to use two browsers for surfing!

People who are having this problem of videos crashing the UI layer of Vivaldi need to include info on their platform, their hardware, and exactly what kind of videos - so that Vivaldi developers can figure out the exact mechanism that is causing it. The vast, vast majority of users are having no such problems, so we can't help. The people who are having the problem have to include AS MUCH DATA AS POSSIBLE so that the developers can hopefully duplicate it, and fix it.

I just experienced this. I was browsing a YouTube channel. As soon as I clicked on a video, Vivaldi crashed. Here is the odd part, the sound from the video began playing, even though there was no video.
I started Task Manager and while it did not list Vivaldi as a running application, there were several Vivaldi processes still running.

Please stop reporting this bug, the devs already know it.
