I haven't been able to view a video on Fox News for months with numerous versions of Vivaldi for Windows and now I'm trying find out why with no resolve.
I'm running 2.10.1745.23x64 on Windows 7 x64
I tried disabling uBlockOrigin
I tried disabling the built-in Popup Blocker.
I tried restarting Hardware Acceleration (rebooting in between)
I tried enabling Flash, even though from what I read, Fox News now uses HTML5 instead of flash. It's got to be a simple fix. Thanks.
To add: The video window turns black but stays that way. Never loads.

@seeley
Hi, is working fine for me.
https://video.foxnews.com/v/6125598800001#sp=watch-live
Check https://tekeye.uk/html/html5-video-test-page
You can try a guest profile: https://help.vivaldi.com/article/guest-view/
I am on Windows 10 Pro 64 and Vivaldi 2.11.1792.3 (Official Build snapshot (64-bit) but work on stable too. -
Thanks so much for trying to help. I tried them. Yes, I can view the test HTML5 videos. No Fox News videos in Guest Profile either.
Do you actually have Flash Player installed which is visable in your Add/Remove Programs list in your control panel? I thought I had flash installed by simply selecting the Flash plugin in Vivaldi settings, but when I test flash, it shows as not available. Could it be Flash is still needed somehow?
-
I just tried a brand new install of standalone 2.10 (1745.27) x64 with default settings. Still no Fox News videos.
-
@seeley
I don´t use/have Flash on my system.
Do you may have a Windows 7 N or KN version?
These have not all video codecs included but I am only guessing and out of ideas now.
I am sure the Vivaldi help machine will step by soon.Mib

@mib2berlin No. Just Windows 7 Pro x64. I'm in the US. Thanks for your help in taking Flash out of the equation because I don't have it installed either.
-
@seeley Sample URL that doesn't work?
-
Probably codecs - common issue on Windows 7, even Pro.

On my Win10 system, I was also unable to watch Fox News videos "forever", until a few days ago when I installed the K-Lite Codek Pak (for entirely separate and unrelated reasons). In testing the Fox videos at https://video.foxnews.com/v/6125598800001#sp=watch-live , they now work fine. That would imply you may have a missing codec for Fox New's Akamai Adaptive Media Players, as @sgunhouse suggested.

Thanks everyone.
All videos at Fox News don't work.

This sounds promising. I do have K-Lite "Full" installed but an older version. I'll update it and report back. Hopefully that will do the trick.
Which build of K-Lite did you install? Full, Basic, Standard, Mega? Thx.EDIT: I updated to the latest K-Lite "Full" version. Still cannot play Fox News videos. Do I need to enable (or even install) the Akamai Adaptive Media Player Codec? If so, how?
-
@seeley I installed the "Standard" version of K-lite to provide a few new codecs for a photo/imaging program so it could play MP4 videos. Beyond that, I did nothing to the system settings or to Vivaldi, and only when testing Fox News today after seeing this thread, did I find that the videos now play. As best I can recall, they've never played before since I've had Vivaldi installed (from its first tech-preview version in early 2015 on a Win 7 system).
In the past, I've discovered some website videos require lax cookie settings or reduced URL blocking because of how those sites import/display their videos or involve 3rd parties in their playback. I don't believe Fox News was one of them, since in earlier days, I tested it with cookies fully enabled and ad blockers disabled - but was never able to achieve video success.
-
@Blackbird Thanks for your help. Still no Fox News videos on Vivaldi.
HOWEVER... I installed a fresh install of Brave browser (Version 1.2.42 Chromium: 79.0.3945.117 (Official Build) (64-bit) portable version) on my windows 7 pro x64 and the Fox News Videos work fine. So I probably didn't need to upgrade to the latest K-Lite anyway.
What's the difference? They're both Chromium-based. And I tried both Vivaldi and Brave with default settings/profile. Brave works and Vivaldi doesn't. My mind is fried.

While they're both chromium-based, they differ in their overlying approach to ad blocking. That implies different approaches to how certain website code might be handled. Hence, that could have impact on a website's video player that utilizes 3rd-party or ad-reputed techniques. That said, it still doesn't explain Vivaldi users having different Fox News video experiences. At this point, it all stands as yet another example of the remarkably consistent inconsistency of digital systems...

I looked at all the replies and your original thread; an employee of Apple told me that 80% of software issues are caused by a conflicting program; the extensions you mentioned, I have as well, and I have no issue.
Do you have any "fingerprinting software or extensions??? This was the problem for me! -
Thank you.
@robtpatrick No fingerprinting software. As a test, I installed the latest version of Vivaldi x64 Stable and immediately after installation, with no extensions and default settings,, went to Fox News and still no videos. So maybe it's something in the default settings you changed? But if that was the case, more would be complaining about it.
Before trying this, I completely disabled my 2 extensions (uBlockOrigin and TabsPlus) and in Settings: allowed 3rd party cookies, disabled tracking, and disabled popup blocker. Also tried toggling my Hardware Acceleration on and off (restarting in between). Also, after making these changes, I completely removed all cookies, history, auto-fill, history ect and restarted Vivaldi. I also changed my PC's DNS settings from Google's to Open DNS. Also, I do not run anything in the background. No anti-virus, firewalls, etc.
What about Windows services? Normally, when I do a clean install, I disable many of the windows services I don't need. Ones that Brave may have built-in? I don't know. Thanks so much.
EDIT: Do you have Flash Player installed? What about Java? I have neither... if it means anything.
-
Many thanks yes on both; we should have a complete HTML5 web, but until we do, we have Flash(UGH) I looked at my Vivaldi preferences; check to see if you have Flash enabled; by default it is disabled for security purposes; lastly, the flash player was updated this week; Flash will be discontinued this year, with only security updates.
-
@robtpatrick Thanks. When I select Enable Flash Player in Vivaldi settings and go to a website to test flash, it shows as not being installed. For this to work, do you actually need the stand alone Flash Player installed? @mib2berlin said he doesn't have Flash on his system and his Fox News videos work.
As for Java, I'd rather keep that off of my system than watch videos.
-
Agree om Jave; I do not like Flash at all; a security risk; there is a program called VLC player will play video content without using Vivaldi; it depends on what you need and wish; go through your complete Vivaldi preferences, and check each and every one for yourself; your post indicated a simple fix; going through your Vivaldi preferences is a simple check!

I removed my UserData folder completely to allow Vivaldi to launch factory fresh... no settings, extentions, nothing. I even checked the default settings. The only two Vivaldi Settings sections I think have anything to do with content are the Privacy and Webpages section.
All of my Flag settings (vivaldi://flags) are default and Identical to the Brave browser's flags. (Brave displays fox news videos nicely).
To add: I even have one of the later versions of Vivaldi on another Win 7pro system at my Mom's. Same thing.. no Fox News Videos. I clean installed both in about the same way with limited services enabled but if I'm missing a crucial service, why is Brave working?
-
@seeley
Update to Windows 10, haha no.
It seams Vivaldi settings or profile is not the reason.
I think Brave come with integrated codecs like Chrome, Vivaldi not.
May we can find out what Akamai Player use.
I have nothing codec relevant installed on my Win 10.Cheers, mib
