30 Speed Dial Thumbnails + Ask for yours
-
Hey,
i'm a graphic designer and would want to share some Speed Dial's thumbnails i made. All thumbs are 440x360, following the original Vivaldi thumbnail's size. You get a zip file at bottom of this post.
Feel free to ask yours, but please :
- Three requests max per post (not per user : post as many requests as you want)
- Try to avoid obscure websites, it's better if it serves the community
- Provide the exact link to the website
-
They look very clean, good job.

Thank you very much

@drswit Thanks. I resized them to 220 x 180, which is the actual thumbnail size @ 100%.
I offer my own Vivaldi Forum icon as an alternative. The white background is transparent.
-
Why resizing them, it does not degrade naturally when adding them ?
-
@drswit I thought it would save space, but they actually get bigger on resampling.
-
@pesala Just depends in what format you save them and with which settings. But why change up a designer's work? My custom thumbnails are big too, I don't think it makes sense to deviate from Vivaldi's choice – the preinstalled ones are 440x360.

It makes perfect sense to me to design them at the size used on the page. My own were designed at 220x170 because that was the size in earlier versions, but now the size is 220x180. Since I use 110% Zoom by default, I guess I should design mine for 242 x 198. Resizing is always going to introduce some distortion, but not enough to notice.

@pesala The original thumbs are created at 440*360 as you can see in
[path-toVivaldi]\Application\#######\resources\vivaldi\resources
This was done for two reasons:- to support hdpi devices
- to give some wiggle room for users who scale the UI
Vivaldi is quite good in downscaling, so a bigger pixel size it was.
To keep the file size in check (the uncompressed images would have added some MB to the installer file) most of the images were compressed with http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/ RIOT - at least the ones I have created, don't know if they still do it on the newly added images - some even with reduced palette.
-
I re-exported my Speed Dial logos at 440x360 from my source file (a Serif PagePlus publication), including this Wikipedia Logo, derived from Wikipedia SVG Logo (Creative Commons License)
The SVG version gives a much sharper result than the original PNG version that I used earlier.
It would be good if we could use SVG in Speed Dials too

Softpedia, Alternativeto, Hentai Foundry
Would love to have a good speed dial for them like the ones you have shown -
Ended making my own speeddials

If you still need some custom thumbnails, I recently created a tool that allows anyone to generate them: Vivaldi Thumbnail Generator
It allows you to batch generate nice-looking, easily readable thumbnails. Here is my own Speed Dial created with it:

@ematte Woah, that's a really nice tool, and works like a charm - thanks for making it!
You should make your own thread in the Customization forum for feedback on it!
-
@Pathduck Thank you so much I'm glad it's useful. I'm just about to do that, thanks for the encouragement
-
Thank you so much for this!!!! I am really special with the look of my browser and i feel dizzy just looking at my speed dial with no thumbnail on them. You are really talentated, thanks for the community srtvice!
