Will You Allow Users to Stop Tracking? What is Vivaldi?
-
I am interested in browsing that is as private as possible. I do not want my web searches tracked; and I am interested in, if not knowledgeable about, stronger methods of encryption. I currently use Firefox, with Blur to block tracking. I love the fact that Firefox is non-profit, but the browser has definite downsides. It has trouble, for instance, with making comments on news sites through Facebook. Is Vivaldi non-profit? What are Vivaldi developers doing to make it a fully functional browser?

You can use Blur in any browser that supports extensions, as Vivaldi soon will. Firefox is NOT non-profit. Only the Mozilla Foundation is. Firefox is a for-profit business. As soon as it's able to make a profit, Vivaldi Technologies will be, too. What are Vivaldi developers doing to make it a fully functional browser? Working on completing it all day, every day.

How do we know when it becomes 'fully functional'?

Once extensions are fully supported, users can add any extra layers they wish. For the moment we just have the standard "do not track" request.
Fully functional in every way, will be a while.
Don't hold your breath, we still have to get to Beta releases yet. Only when you see "RC" (Release Candidate) can it be considered to be bug-free, stable and complete. -
You can install this extension uBlock Origin. Or any alternative like Adblock Plus…
Then write link to extensions in address bar ->```
vivaldi://extensions -
I'm on osx 10.10.3, successfully installed ublock, and it works. Only problem is that I don't see the extension when I visit vivaldi://chrome/extensions – the page is empty, save for the buttons loading extensions and developer mode. Is this a common bug or did I do something wrong? I'd really like to modify ublock's settings.

You can see uBlock in vivaldi://extensions

Also extensions like Ghostery and Privacy Badger (from the EFF) are available and work (for me) on Vivaldi (1.0.258.3 (Developer Build) (32-bit)) .
If you go to the Extensions page and go to 'Get More Extensions' at the bottom you can search for other Privacy type extensions.
For what it's worth I have Developer Mode enabled on the Extensions page, as I use the opera Notes extension, and am able to view all loaded extensions.
These are not 'Bullet Proof' but they will help keep most trackers at bay.
