TP3 is here!

Hi, Today, we released the 3rd Technical preview of the Vivaldi browser. We would like to thank all of you again for testing and helping us to achieve this important development milestone. Special thanks goes to our Sopranos who have been tirelessly testing our internal builds and confirming many incoming issues. TP3 is significant improvement from TP2. Just to recap what we worked on for the last 1.5 month since TP2: Added Tab stack and tab tiling, vertical, horizontal and grid organization Improved Notes both visually and functionally. Now you can add more attachments and screenshots Added support for more mouse gestures, including link gestures Added more keyboard shortcuts and improved keyboard shortcut editing Added Unread tab indicator to both tabs and tab stacks Added optional Native window support for better integration with Linux WMs in particular Added Auto update on Windows Increased the number of supported languages to 40 Added data import from all major browsers. Added on demand image and plugin controls so that you can load only what you need Added Background tab progress indicator Improved both Fast Forward and Rewind functionality Significantly improved Spatial navigation Improved Page actions Added more options to the download dialog. It now has both "Save" and "Save as" in addition to "Open" Added a new option to the bookmarks bar, so that you can have a very compact bookmarks bar with icons only Added full screen reminder option Some performance tuning A lot of bug fixes and polish We are happy to see the progress we’ve made but our work will continue. Thanks for your hard work.
I cleared out my Vivaldi folder and installed Technical Preview 3. The installer remembered my preference for installing the standalone version in O:\Vivaldi\
I copied my common.css and bg.png to the appropriate folders, and now have my setup as I configured it before with larger fonts, and no space above the tabs.
The biggest improvement for me is that GestureLeft and GestureRight now work for Back/Forward.
Tab tiling and stacking are also pretty slick.

THANK YOU! (if you only knew the relief at discovering Operaldi..!)

Thanks for the update :cheer:
A couple of things I noticed:
1. Random rendering errors is still here (does not happen very often, but …):

2. Incomplete (or even missing) thumb:

Here is another one which is correct:

I can easily reproduce an errror like this by going to the IrfanView Forums:
https://irfanview-forum.de/activity.php?
The certificate is out of date, so one has to switch to Advanced mode.
Then clicking the link to Proceed to IrfanView Forums unsafe doesn't seem to do anything.Switching tabs, then back to that tab will then show this rendering problem. Refreshing the page doesn't help.
Closing the tab then opening it again after that displays the forum OK.

Hmm, cannot reproduce that one …

Same here.
When I click that link in advanced mode the forum opens without any error… -
Installed tp3 on new machine,
thumbnails on first add are incomplete as you said, every single one, but after refresh they are fine. -

Actually that certificate IS out of date, it expired on 20/04 (or 04/20 if you prefer).

I just noticed:
My thumbs are only correct if I have tiled them! :woohoo:
(I have tabs on the left). With single or grouped tabs I never get a full thumb picture!

Vivaldi tells me that it expired 9 days ago, which would be 20th April 2015.
I did say that it had expired, so what's your point?

Sorry, I read too quicly from the smarphone, so I missed your point.
BTW no, i can't reproduce the bug this way. Likely it's something that depends on Vga driver.

So no TP4? I think it's to early for Beta, to many major bugs are left.
-
Installed TP3, and I was amazed at how much faster it is at loading compared to the snapshot I had from 2 months ago. And thankfully, the 2 things I'd posted about are here!
1. Improved KB spatial navigation
2. Improved single-key shortcut handlingThat said, it'd be nice to have a way to turn off the flying orange box when using KB spatial navigation. It's very nifty, but distracting. That nitpick aside, congrats to the Vivaldi team on the much improved TP3 - it may be at the point where I'm ready to ditch Opera 12!
EDIT: A couple of observations about spatial navigation:
[ol]- Once a link is selected, there doesn't seem to be KB shortcut for opening the link in a background tab (used to be CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER in Opera 12
- Opening a link on Page A, navigating to Page B, then going back to Page A, sometimes breaks spatial navigation… neither the SHIFT+Arrow keys nor A/S work. Reloading the page fixes the issue.

What? How does one get from "TP3 has been released!" to "So no TP4?" I'm confused.
Anyway I've noticed a bug that's probably not all down to Vivaldi, but so far I've only seen it happen on Vivaldi: If I use the browser long enough (uptime in the 4-7 region) sometimes when I open up a video on YouTube using the HTML5 player it will refuse to play anything apart from the 360p version, even though higher resolutions do exist (this can be checked by for example launching another browser and checking the same video). It's usually temporarily solved by closing and restarting Vivaldi, but sometimes it doesn't help.

It was stated in the blog post that the next milestone is Beta. Stating such on the TP3 post indicates no TP4. So, one hopes that the snapshots between here and Beta cover a lot of ground - both as to features and as to function.

Ah, thanks, I missed that. I would have thought maybe Alpha, but Beta seems a bit far away honestly. Beta is usually referred to as "feature complete", which Vivaldi surely isn't (right?), though that definition is more or less flexible these days.
-
Alpha, Beta … how about Kappa for the next release?
-
Haha, right after installing TP3 I had a chance to confirm that auto-update is working by updating to 1.0.162.9
-
