Show 'x' permanently on tabs
-
Hello,
I'm new to the Vivaldi browser and I like very much so far.
It's possible to activate the display of the 'x' on tabs to close them that way. But the x is shown only when hovering with the cursor over tabs. Is there a way to show it permantently like Chrome does?
Thank you.

@Vivaldi3461409154 ,welcome to our community.
No, but In the configuration of the tabs you can check this option to close the tab using the close button or / and by double-click.Enjoy Vivaldi

@Vivaldi3461409154 If you are comfortable using a CSS mod, vivaldi can let you show them always.
You would use the following code:
.tab-position .tab .close { display: block; }
You can find out more about using CSS mods here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/10549/modding-vivaldi
See the section called "Adding Style - Vivaldi 2.6 and above" -
@LonM I did it as usual with the .css files, but that doesn't work with me, see screenshots:
What am I doing wrong?

@stardepp ah, you've discovered a bug!
Try it without any quotes or spaces in the filename - so just
always_show_x.css

I've renamed it that way now, but the closing cross is not visible:

Thank you guys. But CSS is no option for me since I usually don't "hack" my apps, but still a great solution for anyone who is willed to do so. Anyways, I hope this becomes an official feature someday.
-
@stardepp Are you using the 2.6 instructions? For that you don't need to place it in the resources folder.
-
@Vivaldi3461409154 You could vote up this request if you would like that feature: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/34324/don-t-hide-close-tab-button
If enough people vote for it the devs may implement it

@LonM Now I have worked exactly according to Modding Vivaldi Vivaldi 2.6 instructions, but still no success.
-
@stardepp In that case I'm not sure exactly why it wouldn't be working.
-
Can you just have multiple different .css files in a folder and they will be picked up by Vivaldi?
I thought they had either be in custom.css, or each needed to be linked in browser.html if they're going to be separated files?
-
It allows me a small question in between, why do you want to see the x, when you are not with the pointer above the tab?
-
@stardepp Please copy-paste the path from settings here to the forum. We cannot know which folder exactly do you use and I think I found the problem but I'm not sure.
-
@7twenty Look at first post in the Modding Vivaldi topic in /category/52, more concretely 2.6 and later.

@stardepp โฆso that seems to be OK. You have really strange
computersystem or Vivaldi installation as it should work. -
@potmeklecbohdan How am I supposed to understand that? I installed Vivaldi normally. The Link folder I sent is my local Vivaldi backup.

You aren't.
I installed Vivaldi normally.
That doesn't mean nothing went wrong.
Just a last try: have you restarted Vivaldi since then?

Yes, but I restarted Vivaldi after that.
