Complete Newbie | major problems
-
1, Was and hopefully will be very enthusiastic after solving this possibly series of inter-related problems. And maybe this will also benefit any new users of Vivaldi as I understand Vivaldi is very interested in expanding.
2. The short version of my problem is I spent 3 days setting up Vivaldi so it would work for me.
a) At that time I had a menu system based on bookmark categories in a drop down series of folders, and spent a lot of time defining each individual bookmark with additional information. Always visible on the left
b) Beautiful about this was it stayed open on the left side and had access to everything I needed.
c) On a subsequent login, I was invited to set up Vivaldi, and I was happy to do so. This Involved synchronisation etc., decisions about tabs. In retrospect a huge mistake if I cannot recover what I did before.
d) After logging in, later all 3 days of work had disappeared, and I cold not get back to the set up I had.
Very frustrating I hate losing work.
@passduck
The major question is, can I somehow backtrack to capture what I did before. Or have I got to start from scratch again?Various people have advised me that certain problems should be taken up at specific places. Very clear for old hands with technical expertise, BUT NIOT at all clear for a newbie, who might not be able to keep track of all this.
Some have even made the point that Vivaldi is for technically proficient users, not simple elderly morons lake myself, however determined. To the decision makers in Vivaldi, I would like to suggest, one of the best things Vivaldi could do is to have a dedicated SECTION where newbies could put up their interrelated problems. Newbies do not have the knowledge yet alone the skills to handle this.
This is not the same as the introduction stage, very good, but very dangerous as my own stupidity led to my losing 3 days of work. In my wildest dreams I could not have believed that going through the introduction/start up stage could have led to the current result with loss of data, and TOTAL inability to return to my original set up.I am very determined so am not giving up yet., although close to it: That is not my style, the thought of having to leave Vivaldi and return to any of the other browsers is so hugely depressing.
So is anybody prepared to help me?
In the current version of Vivaldi it seems it is not possible to have the left bookmark with all different folders permanently open, you have to toggle, and having to do this for each operation would be enough to force me to say goodbye to Vivaldi I believe..I would also be prepared to pay a symblic sum for anyone able to deal with this, although my preferred option is if I could be clearly guided to fix it myself.

Welcome!
I can't understand how your Bk settings has been modified since they should be kept.
If screenshots are possible to share, they would help.
--
- First backup your current Vivaldi's Profile.[*]
- Use System Restore - for Profile folder - to recover your previous settings.
- Backup the recovered Profile.
You can wait without LogIn for now until new answers solves that.
--
At Settings > Panels you can choose the behavior, Fixed, AutoHide...
--
[*] Follow Back up | Reset to find the Profile's info.

"Off topic Tip"
Follow the Signature's BackUp | Reset link.
Take the opportunity to start a Backup plan, even create a Template Profile.
