search engine in quick commands with nickname cannot recognize ‘+’
-
When I input
1+1
in address bar or search box and press Enter, or I input1+1
in quick commands box and choose Search "1+1" on Google, Vivaldi will open the link below.
https://www.google.com/search?q=1%2B1
If I inputg 1+1
in address bar and press Enter, the result is same. However, if I inputg 1+1
in quick commands box and press Enter, the link below will be opened.
https://www.google.com/search?q=1+1
The first link shows the search result of keyword1+1
, and the second link's keyword is1 1
This phenomena reproduces while using other search engine, too. So I think it may be a bug of Vivaldi. -
@OriBeta It is not a bug, it is a feature.
Calculations can be performed in the URL field. You can disable the calculator in Quick Commands from Settings, Quick Commands.
-
@Pesala Thanks for reply, however, the problem still is still not solved.
And I think, the
calculator
checkbox means whether show calculation result in Quick Commands or not. Look the screenshot below:Before disable
calculator
:
After disable
calculator
:
I type in
g 1+1
and press Enter, the page still will be https://www.google.com/search?q=1+1 -
@Pesala Parsing the search query for the engine (i. e. translating the
+
into%2B
; of course after pressing enter) should work no matter the qc calculator setting → it is a bug. -
Have you filed a bug report yet? If not, Please do! See this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
Once that is done, please share the bug number (beginning with VB-). Thanks.
On the form, you can add your email address. Once submitted, you'll get a confirmation. You can reply to this with any logs or further info.

@LonM Yes, I report it just now. The bug number is VB-59967.
-
It also depends on why you are using it.
Some search engines use it as part of the search command:
"Winner +SuperBowl I"
Without the quotes t can be used to replace:
"Winner AND SuperBowl I"
Different search engines support different commands to refine a search. Goo has extensive docs on theirs. Others, not so much. -
@greybeard Yeah, I know about it. But I think the search results from Quick Commands should be the same as which from Google's website.
By the way, even if I use quotes, the results are still wrong. For example inputg "1+1"
in Quick Commands and press Enter, then Vivaldi loads https://www.google.com/search?q="1+1" rather than https://www.google.com/search?q="1%2B1" -
@OriBeta said in search engine in quick commands with nickname cannot recognize ‘+’:

I agree on that. As there is a bug report I am sure they have their eyes on this.

there should be still encoded in the address, no matter its use. -
