Snapshot fix for DRM'd content on macOS — Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1692.4
-
@potmeklecbohdan Yeah, if I disable searching in address field I get an error on ctrl+clicking the protcol.
-
@LonM But is it white, or black?
-
@potmeklecbohdan Mine is white. Do you use an OS-based dark mode?
-
@LonM Ah, that was it. I don't have “Prefer dark theme” on, but use a dark one. But it's strange that if I type it manually, I get a light one.

Default thumbnail replaced custom thumbnail for YouTube
Same here, not for the first time after an update; not a big deal but I do check it each update now.

New error pages? Got this by ctrl-clicking

on the address bar, how did you change the bookmark icon to a heart?

-
@Gwen-Dragon What can you confirm? Going to
http://https/
, or black error page only on this occasion (otherwise white; another condition for dark one is dark Gtk theme)? -
OK, so it follows the Gtk theme more often. But still not always.
-
@Gwen-Dragon Where do you test it? Could you please try on Linux with
- Gtk “prefer dark theme” off
- Gtk 2 & 3 theme set to something dark
with
- ctrl-clicking the protocol (https)
- writing the URL you were redirected to in a new tab

I now checked some of my old reports and it looks like these are fixed, but not mentioned in changelogs:
VB-50531
Some icons in addressfield are not fully styledVB-50532
Capture page always resets to “Save as PNG”VB-53853
Reopened tab is placed at the end of tab barVB-57433
Preview in add bookmark dialog doesn't display
-
@Gwen-Dragon Also when you type it manually?

Breakpoint dot in devtools' elements tree is shown below the correct node also seems to be fixed. -
I'm having issues with Picture in Picture for Youtube on this snapshot. I'm unsure it's Vivaldi though, the issue is really weird.
What happens is that PiP is just a black or white rectangle, instead of video, but the overalay is still there. Reverting to the stable version fixes things.
What I tried (now things get weird):
- Edge Chrome Canary - same issue
- Chrome Canary - same issue
- Vivaldi Stable - works OK
- Vivaldi Snapshot - not working, private mode - not working
- Vivaldi Snapshot, stand-alone install - working OK...
- Vivaldi Snapshot inside a VMware VM - working OK...
This made me first suspect a GPU driver issue, but I reverted to 388.13 for my 1070ti and the issue was still there. Also performed a number of uninstalls/reinstalls, but the issue reappeared...
Since stable works well, it's OK for now, but I'm kinda worried that it will break when 2.9 releases to the public. Maybe other users could try to replicate the issue?
Thanks.

I wish I would know for sure, this is why I posted my doubts that the bug is about Vivaldi, since the other Chromium browsers I tried also did not work. It's good it works for you, this means there might be something on my PC that's conflicting in some way, although it's such a weird specific thing to conflict with - everything works perfectly fine, but PiP on YT. I deleted the whole profile, reinstalled cleanly, and issue reappeared on the snapshot. Stable however works perfectly fine for some weird reason.
I have it installed in Program Files/Vivaldi for all users, on a Win10 x64 Pro v.1903 PC which is up to date. I'll give it a shot with the only user being myself and report back.

@Gwen-Dragon OK, thanks for testing, pointed me in the correct direction.
I remembered I had a more peculiar setup for the Profile location. I used a simlink to "convince" Vivaldi to write the profile to a HDD, instead of the OS SSD. I "watch" quite a bit of Youtube in the background and it can add to quite a few written GBs on the SSD, which hardly offers any performance gains outside the startup of the app.
I think the simlink got broken some Windows or Vivaldi update. It worked perfectly for months so I forgot about it. These simlinks seem to get broken if the folders get deleted, moved, changed etc.
Now I just deleted the Profile User Data folders and recreated the simlink and now it works fine. Weird the stable version worked regardless. I wonder why.

@matsuda0707 I got the exact same problem, I'm on Windows 10 64bit.
-
@Gwen-Dragon I spoke too early about fixing it. There is something definitely with my PC and the last snapshot that kills PiP, which still works on the virtual machine for some reason. Previous snapshot works fine. I installed 3 standalone versions, stable 2.8, snapshot 2.9.1675.11 and the newest 2.9.1692.4, in 3 separate folders. No extensions, no custom settings, no modifications whatsoever. 2.8 and 2.9.1675.11 play PiP normally well, as it was the case since it was launched.
2.9.1692.4 however can't show PiP.
I made a video to better illustrate the issue. Personally, I have no idea what is going on.
Edit: Bitchute's PiP works fine. Seems to be similar with YT's in functionality and UI elements, but it works fine.
This test also works fine:

I can confirm UI-freeze (for about 2-3 minutes after start-up) on my Win10 installation. On my Win7 machine I have no issues.
