first
@brunnopleffken I can not confirm.
now
@iAN-CooG same happens to me if the search argument includes a dot.
do you confirm it finally?
it's by design
one can argue that it's a lazy implementation, the words are separated by spaces, if one searches for
ubuntu19.04
(no spaces) it's possibly an url, but
ubuntu 19.04
can't be an url, it should perform a search. -

yes, if you type [[media.local]] on the Address bar Vivaldi or any web browser will open the site.
-
@lamarca but if I write media . local (spaces) it should perform a search, like all other browsers do.
-
I was doing a search on Startpage (the actual search box on the webpage, not using Vivaldi's built-in search), and the text started typing left-to-right.
I remember this bug from a long time ago. Hadn't seen it in a while.
It only happened once and I haven't been able to reproduce. Unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention to what steps I took before it happened. It's dark right now and I accidentally mashed some keys by mistake, then started typing and that's when the left-to-right text entry happened.
I'm on Linux Mint 19.2 x64

@iAN-CooG The Address Bar is complex. The space is
arereplaced (erased) by escapes: media .local → media/ .localEdited: grammar
-
@brunnopleffken: yes and this is very annoying. It wasn't like this before and worked like a charm. I doubt it will be fixed before final though.
-
@lamarca: can't you agree that this behavior is not convenient for users? Moreover before the address bar rewrite that combination worked for search and now it doesn't. Personally i can't see any advantages with new address bar but i see a lot of bugs and annoyances.

right mouse button click on the startpage search field, select the context menu Writing Direction, set it back to left to right.
-
@Hunk Of course I agree it.
-
@npro: it's harder to reproduce than it was before, but it is still here. Not only on particular site.
I don't know if extensions may interfere with searching at all. I'm using the same set of battle-tested extensions as always.
-
I just pressed Alt+P to open the settings, and they didn't open. I tried several times. It doesn't work using the keyboard shortcut, but it works fine using the menu.
-
@gt500: Funny, it works fine after restarting Vivaldi.
