Lazy tabs workaround
-
While it is more of a hack than a solution, there is a chromium extension for emulating lazy tab loading. Since my 10yo laptop can't handle much of a browser startup with tons of tabs these days, I've given the extension a small overhaul, it works as well as you can make it work, being an extension instead of core functionality. For anyone interested, I put it on a GitHub Gist: https://gist.github.com/Orochimarufan/9e3b69b2d093dcb5c0a3 Install it like any other chromium extension: Get the zip from the Gist page, unpack it somewhere, go to vivaldi://chrome/extensions, enable developer mode and click "load unpacked extension" Note that the way it keeps tabs from loading may interfere with extensions like LastPass (In that case, the auto-login on browser start breaks sometimes) I hope it's gonna be useful to somebody.

Looks like a great idea!
(I will download immediately, although I've got so much else to do with Vivaldi before I'll be ready to try adding any extensions, let alone a custom one).
I just wanted to reply because I think it's fantastic that you would bring such an offering to the community in your FIRST forum post!!! :cheer:
Thanks!!!

Thank you for posting. If we get a Tips, Tricks and Hacks Sticky, this is definitely then sort of stuff that could be added.

Nice extension.
I hope it will improved removing the need of clicking the button.

Very useful extension. Thank you.

@gdveggie Well thank you, coding is just what I do so I just shared the work I had already done (Also, I tend to stay in the lurking audience in forums :P)
Note that right now, there is no Vivaldi Extension API that I'm aware of. Thanks to the heritage, it is however possible to sideload Chromium extensions.
@The_Solutor What button are you talking about? The 'Load unpacked extension' on the extensions page? AFAIK, thats the only way to sideload Chromium extensions right now. I'd be happy to be proven wrong
@ruaman Glad you like it

@The_Solutor What button are you talking about?
The button to load manually the page.
Would be nice seeing the page to start loading by itself, when its tab is focused.

Hmm, it should do that already, apparently not very dependably though… I'll have a look at it later

Ok, it started to work as you describe after a reboot.
I still see the message "this page was blocked by an extension" and the blue reload button., but after a moment the page starts to load by itself.

I guess I have already voiced this, but just in case, I would much prefer if tabs simply restored from cache on start, as Presto Opera. No loading time, and all the info of the last session right away, if I need to see it updated I just refresh the page.
