Bookmarks Title to Tab
-
Is there a way to make the title of the bookmark in the bookmarks panel stay in place. I renamed a bookmark and it converted back to default on my tab. Can i make the title/nickname of my bookmark what my tab shows? What purpose does the nickname provide other than a search term?

You can name a bookmark anything you want, but the title that appears on a tab is the web page title encoded in the HTML code of the web page (open the saved .html from a web page in a text editor and see the text between <title></strong> and <strong></title> near the top of most pages).
On some (mostly older) browsers the same title appears in the title bar at the top of the browser (e.g., Opera 12.x and earlier, older IE, etc.) but the recent trend has been to not display the title in the title bar, or to not even have a title bar at all. Some browsers allow UserJS (JavaScript) scripts to modify all sorts of things, and with those browsers a UserJS script could be written to automatically alter how the web page title is displayed in the tab or title bar for all pages from a given domain (e.g., to remove ", the free encyclopedia" from the end of the title for all English Wikipedia pages). I believe UserJS functionality is planned for Vivaldi, and maybe can be achieved now using a Greasemonkey extension, but I haven't had a chance to look into that yet.
AFAIK, there is no way to do this from typical bookmarks in any browser.

ok gotcha, I didn't know that…
I guess my question is then, what is the purpose of renaming a title in the bookmarks and what is the purpose of the nickname feature? Just wondering if there is some kind of usability of those things that I am missing and might be able to use.
Thanks for the reply

Changing the "name" of the bookmark changes its name that appears on the bookmarks bar. In my case, I place many bookmarks with highly abbreviated names and no icons across the bar; for others, it allows a more distinctive bookmark name to be applied than perhaps is the default name. Beyond that, sorting functionality-to-come may use the names and nicknames for grouping purposes.
