New Tab Focus

@TbGbe and Shift+Click on a link opens the link on a new tab in the foreground.

@npro If you use a mouse right click can be your best friend.
That said, are you asking about using your keyboard?
If the answer is "yes"....Settings>Keyboard>Tabs>Create you own keyboard shortcut. -
@Para-Noid Hi Para-Noid I'm not asking anything, I just added a complementary line to what TbGbe said, it's TheShadow4Vivaldi who is asking and did not respond to TbGbe's answer
-
@npro I wasn't answering anything. I was adding to your reply. All of us who were/are participating in this thread did what is expected of us. Sharing our knowledge and desire to promote the usage of Vivaldi. With the growing number of V users there will be a growing number of questions needing to be answered.

@Para-Noid it's because you wrote explicitly to me
@npro If you use a mouse right click can be your best friend.
which doesn't make sense, probably you 've clicked on the wrong "reply" button

@npro There's at least one place where this does not work. Shift-click does not work on Flickr search results, at least on Mac. Shift-click on a thumbnail and it just goes to the linked page in the current tab.

Yes, and it's the same in other browsers. Some sites override the default functions of a browser, for some reason or another. This is what is called "a**hole design".
Unfortunately this is what the web has become. Unless you disable Javascript completely, which would break 99% of sites out there.
I hope that in time to come, Vivaldi will allow us to control these things ourselves, and stop sites from taking over the basic features of a web browser.

The image shows Firefox's option settings for tabs. Vivaldi does not open a new tab and switch to it immediately.
By default, Firefox does it backwards, i.e. always opens links in a new background tab. If you enable that option in your screenshot, it focuses the new tab, i.e. opens a new foreground tab.
Vivaldi does opens a new foreground tab by default, so one uses Ctrl+click or Middle-click (or a mouse gesture) to open a new background tab.
- Left-click does what the website tells it to do, i.e. opens the link in the current tab, or opens it in a new tab
- Right-click offers all three options: foreground, background, or current tab (Open Link).

I'm sorry but you are totally wrong.
Please read my post again, and spare us the Caps Lock:

This is true.
To open a start page shortcut in a new tab, use Shift+Click โ the default is to reuse the start page tab.
If I left click a link in a Gmail tab, it opens in a new foreground tab.

@TheShadow4Vivaldi Since you and Pesala have said the same thing - that by default Firefox does not switch to tabs - there is no reason to repeat yourself or to SHOUT.

I do not use caps lock.
Then immediately follow that with:
It DOES NOT bring focus to that tab!
What more can I say? I think you are the one who needs to read the posts again.

I can hold down the Ctrl key and press one of the links on the Start page. Vivaldi DOES open a new tab next to the Start page tab. It DOES NOT switch to it immediately! I have to click on the new tab to bring focus.
As others have said before:
shift-click
notctrl-click
to open a link in new foreground tab. -

@TheShadow4Vivaldi I don't know what you're talking about. Just try shift click out, referencing some obscure article that lists shortcuts for browsers that aren't Vivaldi won't help you.
