Possible to open NZBs instead of downloading and saving?
-
I'm simply trying to have vivaldi OPEN nzb files like my all my other browsers. It only downloads them. I've tried extensions like NZB Unity etc but it just won't "open" them it saves the NZB which isn't what I want. Possible? Anyone actually using NZBs that can comment if it works for them?

Welcome to the forums and enjoy Vivaldi Browser
Vivaldi Browser Help Center is available by hitting F1 key
Take your time to read the Community Code of ConductWhat Vivaldi version are you running and can you provide the URL of any website with nzb file for our tests?

Which message do you get after clicking the link?
Sorry, I don't use windows. -
Why do you need to open the nzb file in the browser? Wouldn't you have something like Sabnzbd monitor a download location and automatically pick up the file when you download it?
Also you should probably provide a different link. That's probably not a file that should be shared on these forums.

@ugly It's a tv show (we pay for cable but like to dvr stuff), so if it's a problem it can be deleted.
It can be tested by going to Binsearch:
https://www.binsearch.infosearch for anything and attempt to open an NZB with whatever app you use, like I said, I use sabnzbd. It doesn't Open it, it downloads it. All my other browsers open it so I don't have do delete them afterwards. I don't want to use a watched folder as it doesn't suit my needs and isn't really relevant to why this doesn't work in vivaldi...at least for me.

@ajvivaldi I can't confirm. Vivaldi prompts a box with the four options. A screenshot, just in case.
Do you get the Box?

Thanks for checking it out. Actually, NOW it's now prompting me and just downloading to default automatically. Looking for how to reset file actions in settings
-
Good news.

Not really, it's still just downloading and not opening. So I don't get a prompt, just downloads. Having trouble finding settings for apps in vivaldi

@ajvivaldi Can you tell us the difference between and other web browser? What do they do and lack on Vivaldi
-
I think I did already. other browsers I click on the NZB and it offers an option to OPEN or SAVE. When you OPEN the nzb, it sends it directly to Sabnzbd (the app that handles them for my system) and the nzb file is gone afterwards. I use extensions with firefox so that it automatically does this without the need for a dialog box.
Trouble now is just finding out how to reset vivaldi file associations on windows...why is this so hard to find too?

I'm on Linux, but when I use Vivaldi and 'Open' an nzb file, it is added to my queue in Sabnzbd. So for me, there is no difference between Vivaldi and Firefox. Vivaldi does not open them in a text editor.
Vivaldi also downloads the file to my default Downloads directory (which is a different folder than my watched folder in Sabnzbd - the watched folder automatically removes the nzb file after adding it to my queue, which seems to be the functionality that @ajvivaldi is looking for).
However, this seems to be the way Vivaldi always handles files when you 'Open' them. This is a little awkward because I think most people think a file that is opened, as opposed to saved, does not get stored on their computer. Whether you open a file or save a file, you're still downloading the file to your computer. I think other browsers usually put it in a temporary directory so the files are not easily visible, but the files are still there all the same. Vivaldi merely puts the files in the default download directory, so they are more visible.

I am on Linux as well. The file association (MIME types) is getting better. Vivaldi opens BT using X application. Added manually on the file list.
application/x-bittorrent=transmission-gtk.desktop;
}}If you open /. you are downloading the website element{{
Most people don't know it. I forgot the folder for Temp Files. It's more close to a bufferI am sorry @ajvivaldi, you are on windows. Have a look at:

Regardless of file type, if you choose 'open' in the download dialogue vivaldi will download the file, save it and then open it. There is a feature request somewhere in the forums about downloading the file to a temporary folder instead, but it hasn't been implemented yet.

windowz.
It's spelled windows. Try to put more care on what you write, especially because you're a moderator in here. I know you linuxers spell it wrong in disrespect. We both don't want to start a OS war. Thank you.

Thanks everyone, that helps in at least understanding it better. I'll tinker around and figure something out just like we have to do with pretty much everything these days. It's worth the effort to avoid Google chrome and Firefox has been with me since the start but has a few recent quirks that forced me to leave it as my daily driver.

I think @ajvivaldi has two separate issues here. One is, as @Komposten mentioned, the fact that Vivaldi saves files to the 'Download' directory instead of a temporary folder. I believe that this is the feature request that should be upvoted: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24240/save-opened-files-in-temporary-folder
The second issue is that Vivaldi does not have a MIME type handler. There is also a feature request for this, which should be upvoted: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24141/support-for-mime-types
So the workaround is to use Windows' file type handler to associate .nzb files with Sabnzbd. Or use the Watched folder feature in Sabnzbd.
