Problem with Bookmarks top horizontal menu
-
For about the last month or so, I've been having a problem with the Bookmarks item in the top horizontal menu. Unlike all the other items in the menu, when I click on the Bookmarks item it immediately causes a click even on the first item, which is the Ctrl-B "Manage Bookmarks" function. I do not want this, I want to see the cascading bookmarks items, so I can select a group and find my bookmark without opening a new Bookmarks tab. None of the other menu items do this, just Bookmarks. It wasn't like this a month or so ago. I am on the latest version.

I even tried uninstalling Vivaldi and reinstalling it. Still does this.

Try a different mouse, or clean your existing mouse. It might be a hardware problem giving an unintended second click.
No such issue here, and it is not a bug that I have seen reported elsewhere.
A workaround is to use the Access key shortcut, Alt+B.

@Pesala If it were a mouse issue, then it would be intermittent. This happens EVERY time, and NEVER happens anywhere else. It's not a mouse issue.
-
@beachbt Then perhaps an extension is causing this. Try in a new private window.

That's not a good sign.

Vivaldi creates two folders which has to be delete manually before the reinstall
- opt/vivaldi <---- the installation folder
- profile (Default) - see
vivaldi://version
to get the full path of the folder.
Keep in touch

@beachbt Uninstalling and reinstalling seldom has any effect whatever. Corruptions or errors in the Vivaldi executable are vanishingly rare.
What will often cure mysterious maladies in performance is to refresh your profile.

Before reinstalling two folders need to be manually deleted. It's not to inherit any bad data from the previous install.
Btw what are the Installation & the Profile folders full path in Windows?
-
@lamarca It varies, depending on the install. Could be almost anywhere. The default path, with a "user only" install is c:\Users\USER\appdata\local\vivaldi. Within the Vivaldi folder are the Appplication and User Data folders, and within the User Data folder is the Default folder, that contains almost everything that ever gets corrupted or causes malfunction during Vivaldi daily use.

@Ayespy Thanks. All mods have Win installed (you, Lilo, Steve). Now it's too late.

@Ayespy Thank you, this resolved my problem. I discovered, through your "refresh your profile" tip, that the problem was actually my Bookmarks themselves! I don't know what part of the old Bookmarks caused this, but after refreshing my profile, as soon as I copied my old bookmarks back the problem returned. So I deleted all of them, and imported one by one back from an archive. Thanks so much.

@beachbt Glad that worked out for you!
