No thumbnails in speed dial

There are no thumbnails in speed dial. I have tried the reload button with no avail. Attachments:

Try opening all your speed dial sites and reload while they're open. Worked for me.

There are no thumbnails in speed dial. I have tried the reload button with no avail.
Hit F5 while on the speed dial page. They should load.

My thumbnails keep getting deleted – I think this happens when I clear history, but I've tried by process of elimination to find the setting that doesn't delete thumbnails and nothing seems to work... Anyone know where the thumbnails are stored?
-
On my PC it takes couple of minutes for the thumbnails to come back. I just give it a couple of minutes.

I think it IS a bug, if an intended operation of the browser only works on some machines and on some connections.
I predict that if one polled users as to 1) machine resources, 2) connection speed and 3) ability to obtain thumbnails in speed dial, one would find a high degree of correlation between the level of 1+2, and the level of 3.
The longer it would naturally take a given machine on a given connection to build a page to be displayed, the greater likelihood that thumbnail-fetching in speed dial would fail. If anyone with a slick machine and a zippy connection cannot reliably get thumbnails, I'd like to hear about it.
-
On my laptop it takes atleast 15 to 30 seconds for the thumbnails to come back, all of you having this problem try to leave the browser open for a minute and see what happens.

It's clearly a thornier problem than that for many (most) people. I have a pretty good (not great) machine on a decent (but not up to European standards) connection, and light pages with low ping times fill themselves in without my intervention if they are on the first level. If they don't fill in by themselves, I have to click on the refresh button, almost always wait for it to fail (takes about six seconds to time out), and then click on it again - and sometimes a third time, to get a page image. This is nearly always the case for dials in folders, especially folders within folders. If I leave my machine running with Vivaldi open for fifteen hours, no more pages will be filled in at the end of that time than were filled in at the beginning.
That said, in idle moments with nothing better to do, but with determination and patience and clicking, clicking and re-clicking, I have managed to populate a majority of my 700 or so speed dials with thumbnails. The saga continues.

Well mine are clearly getting deleted; they don't 'come back' if I wait… I'm using the portable 'standalone' install option in the installer and this may be the culprit, as well it may just be the clear history feature throws the baby out with the bathwater as far as the tile thumbnail images…
It would be nice if we had feature documentation for Vivaldi settings, hacks, tweaks, advanced & custom settings, and where all the various stuff is cached and stored so we can check out this sort of thing for ourselves, and better support the development of the browser...

I think I reported this bug 2 or 3 times already using their bug tracker. There's a lot of factors to consider for this. Maybe Vivaldi might not be caching the thumbnail images very well or it tries to load them at every browser restart or it just varies per machine it's on. Maybe you even need a good internet connection. Either way, this needs to be optimized more. More in the vain of old Opera ;), I liked how you could set the reload times there too.

Well bug or not, I can definitely confirm that with the 64 bit edition of Vivaldi installed as 'stand alone' when you clean the history you delete all your thumbnails for the Speed Dial. This should either be an additional and separate delete option for history, or be removed from history clean up entirely. I think what's happening is not a bug, but an incomplete feature…

Does vivaldi://thumbnails provide what you want?
If not, maybe one of the other Vivaldi URL links at vivaldi://vivaldi-urls will.

I have the same problem. I had thumbnails but then lost them all. Have tried many things including deleting a site and re-adding it. Still no thumbnail. Can someone fix this bug please? And also allow for changing the background picture on speed dial.

apparently as vivaldi takes the screenshot of the PC cache, then in gmail at the moment of go for 1st time at gmail page vivaldi saves the logg in page as screenshot, but if we go to log in 1º case and then load the page of mails the thing changes. So what we do is in the desired speed dial press button right of the mouse and select upload in new tab and then there newly loaded page back to the page of the speed dial and we do charge screenshot and so should things go well, but sometimes fails (outlook should be load 3 times to get screen shot) as seen in this screenshot:
in a netbook with 10" 1024x600px screen there is a not full capture see below the gray space below the caps:

I have the same problem. The row below never ends loading:

I can definitely confirm this on windows 8.1 x64 Vivaldi x64 build.

I don't have trouble with "no" images in speed dial, but I am now definitely running into the problem of disappearing images in speed dial. The main page did not have the problem until this version, and now about a third of them vanish between sessions - plus the images in most of the sub folders are gone again, and in some cases the only way to get an image back is to delete every copy of that bookmark in the browser, go to the page, and then save it in the subfolder of speed dial, and then the image will be there. Short of this, a couple of refreshes will sometimes get an image - but it two tries doesn't get it, a dozen tries won't do it either.

Still not fixed even in the latest snapshot/build (1.0.174.8-1)… When you clear your history all your Speed Dial thumbnails still get wiped; really not a good design or setup.
This is especially annoying considering how elaborate and time consuming it is to get thumbnails on Speed Dial, and even more so of you have a multi-page Speed Dial setup which is virtually mandatory considering the large (and unconfiguragble) size limitation of the tiles.
As well Opera's Speed Dial was a definitive features that set the browser apart and could really use some attention from the Vivaldi team in genera (see post here)…
-
Same thing again with latest build 1.0.178.2, tiles wiped when you clear Vivaldi's history…
Has anyone found a work-around to keep the tiles from getting wiped but allows you to clear all the rest of the cached crap?

101459 – I guess you could call my solution a work around.
Every week I back up all of my hard drive partitions and selected directories to an external drive, I also back up my Vivaldi Default folder in the User Data before I do any upgrades or when I am playing around with Vivaldi's parts.
I just closed Vivaldi, went into xplorer2 and backed up the Default folder. I then went in the User Data and found the Cache folder and deleted all of the files that were older than 05-23-2015. I reopened Vivaldi and I just went through all of my Speed Dial entries. I still have all of my tiles and their thumbnails. Everything is still working as it should. I click on the thumbnail and the tab opens correctly.
The differnece in size is today's d cache is that after the deletion it is 131,605,468 versus 646,621,637 before the deletion of all of the older files. This is a reduction of 515mb+. Pretty good.
This is a complicated way to dump a lot of past due stuff, but it looks as though when I just purge the whole Cache folder, I do lose the tiles. So for now when I want to clean up the extraneous stuff, this is what I will have to do.
