Make reading easier with Vivaldi

Knowing how to take control of zoom, fonts and such in your browser can make a big difference to reading online. It can also give your eyes some much-needed relief.

You have missed Numpad+ and Numpad- for zoom in and out and Numpad* for resetting the zoom.
Probably working on a laptop without numpad -
I always find it very satisfying when a Web designer chooses an ugly font, or strangely styled page and I can just switch to reader mode and subvert the issues they caused.
-
@axk: You forgot to say "please".
-
@solidsnake: Indeed, good advice for those with numpads
-
I like hover over the zoom bar and scroll. BIG thank for it.
-
Or, a user can use the + or - signs on either side of the zoom level percent number.

Could the Reader Font Size please be allowed to Increase beyond 200%? I realize that's probably already excessive for people with normal vision, but it would be a great accessibility advantage for those with limited sight. (If not, the Tranquility add-on can go way larger...)
-
@LorenAmelang I don't know what OS you are using, but in Windows 10 you can make the text even bigger with dragging a slider additionaly to the default way of choosing a higher dpi scaling. You can find it under Vision -> Display in the Settings.
-
@npro Took me awhile - I guess you mean Windows settings, not Vivaldi settings! But I already have Windows screen scaling and Windows text size set as large as they can be for normal use of other apps. I just want a way to make the reader text content larger, not the whole interface. Thankfully there is Tranquility!

@lorenamelang: Good point, we'll look into it! In the meantime, try using Reader Mode font size in combination with Page Zoom, that would get it to 500%.
-
Except for the fact that I cannot get my favorite font used in the Vivaldi browser I'm back, for good using Vivaldi. NOW it has all of what I want and I'm picky but not sooooo pocky. Tusen takk for denne browser.

@solidsnake: Aye, I find those most useful indeed. Now if I had a button or key that gave me a quick 150% zoom (I don't need it all the time, but it seems to be a common magnification for me) things would be oh so fine. At least in one (more) way.
-
@para-noid: Huh, I see no such things. (Snapshot, Linux Mint)
-
@para-noid: Oh, I see. Button 'range control' as replacement for slider rather than augmentation. Interesting, but I'm keeping the slider, myself.
-
@Vakkotaur I'm using 2.5.1525.43 (Stable channel) (64-bit) and I don't have the slider. I have the +/-. I never was a fan of the slider. Another way to increase/decrease font size is to hold down ctrl and use the mouse wheel.
ctrl + mouse wheel

@OlgaA Interesting to add page zoom... Unlike Tranquility, Reader Mode seems to keep the page layout of some pages, and the main text block may end up pushed far to the side of the screen when you zoom it up. Zoom also expands the column width you have set for Reader Mode until it hits the edges of your screen, and at least on some pages starts from the original text sizes instead of the font size you have chosen for Reader Mode. So you can't just set a single preferred width and zoom...
The least readable aspect may be that a small font zoomed up 3X or 4X is very different from the same typeface designed for the displayed point size. Both Serif and Sans choices turn into a glaring wall of text color with not nearly enough contrasting space. I suppose there is some way to mod the available fonts...
But definitely worth investigating further... Different pages respond differently.

Interesting ... This is what I was writing ... Does this page support Reader View mode? My Vivaldi browser says not. It would be great if it did so I could test the function ... and/or ... alternatively, told me why I don't have the reader icon.
But now that I have logged into the Vivaldi site to post, I see the Reader icon!
Is this also a limitation? I need to be logged into sites to use the reader. Because in general I don't see the reader. I still don't see the Reader icon on other sites that I am logged into though.

@Aussie This forum does not support Reader View. Many sites do not, but many do. There is no default shortcut for Reader View, so assign one yourself such as Ctrl+R for quicker access.
