Vivaldi Hangs on print preview
-
I am using Vivaldi to access ham radio practice tests and when finished with an test, I attempt to print it to my local printer(defined in windows 10) but the print window is "hung" where the print button does not work, the main menu at the top of the application does not work, clicking on "file" has no effect and the only thing I can do is exit out of the test which looses my session and I have to start over with a new test. Tried the same thing in Firefox and it works correct every time. Something is amiss here in Vavaldi. I really like Vivaldi but if it is going to hand like this every time, then I must go back to Firefox...Anyone, please, any ideas??

@kylermd Maybe you should try the things suggested in this thread
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/36257/websdr-sites-not-working-with-vivaldiAlso, url(s) to test and your OS/Vivaldi version info would be useful.

@kylermd
Yep - same here. Scrolled the threads to see if this was an issue for anyone else. Almost missed it, since the title is just "Vivaldi Hangs" instead of Vivaldi Print Hangs".I really need to start following my old tech school advice and stop updating Vivaldi until I know things are working.
I depend on PDF printing, and it took over a year to get the last PDF print issue resolved as of the previous update, to which I was very happy. But this new update just made things worse, since not only is PDF printing hanging and sporadic, but so is normal printing to my office laser printers.
My business is 90% dependant on #PDF #Printing and the ability to #print out shipping labels. This is a bummer.
It just hangs on Preview. -
@rdreammaker
Turning off Hardware Accelerator and restarting the browser appears to of resolved the hang, at least in this browser session. Hopefully, this will be a lasting solution. -
@rdreammaker I spoke to soon, the issue returned after two half page prints.
Once I returned the print margin to default at regular 8.5x11 the hang returned.

That update that just rolled out a minute ago seems to have resolved the printing hang and sped up the overall browser a little.

@Gwen-Dragon I have discovered why Vivaldi hangs when printing. When selecting "print" from the file menu item,
there is a check box which says "print using system dialog box" if that is unchecked, you will get the printer print dialog page and you can select the print options you wish to use. I am still looking to find out where this check box is set but so far not been able to locate it. Does anyone one know where it is set and can it be cleared?? -
Wonderful!! I looked for a "known bugs" listing but do not see one...Did I miss it?? If one is non-existent, is it possible to have one created?
-
@Gwen-Dragon Interesting!! How/Who tracks what to fix?? surely there is some control on what is being fixed and by whom?? Developers...isn't there??
-
@kylermd there is a closed bugs list, that's what is used to keep track. You can point one if the forum members who has access (on a reasonable time scale) to see progress on a bug.

Kyler --
This is along-standing Vivaldi bug since about last November. I started complaining about it months ago, and have formally entered bug reports at least 2 times!!It never really gets solved and yet it is such a fundamental browser function! Frustrating and sad.
I sense some work has been done of this BUT IT IS NOT SOLVED!
I see new print related bugs -- like jumping to a different tab when printing is finished or changing the zoom level of the page when you complete a print.
Yes, one can try the Reader function and/or use PrintFriendly, but those sometimes fail to render what you desire.It has been suggested to me that the issue is with the Chrome engine yet NOT OTHER BROWSER I USE WITH CHROME HAS THIS ISSUE -- Opera, Chrome. And Firefox prints fine too.
Surely the moderators know this! I have commented on this issue to many of them in the past!
I just don't believe the Vivaldi team cares enough about the issue. I mean it's gone on for almost 7 months now.
I'm now out of Vivaldi on a regular basis. Just not worth it. But I would like to have it be my main browser. Some day, maybe...some year...maybe...if they ever fixed the darn print function.

@Gwen-Dragon
Gwen - You and others in your role are in a difficult situation. We understand that. People enter issues, complaints, etc. And maybe I should not expect that you remember every general interaction. That said, I have reported and/or commented this issue too many times over the past 7 months. My patience is gone!
Once again, and repeating what I posted before - My last bug reports were: VB-52258, VB-46572, VB-46547
In those posts, I included example webpages. I also provided more examples directly to the bug team.For me, this bug happens about 10-20% of the time. I am a heavy browser user and print/pdf-er. I know all the tricks. Right now I'm using Opera and sometimes Chrome. I have no more patience on this FUNDAMENTAL matter. I AM out! GONE!
Maybe I'll be back someday. Who knows. Vivaldi have been great for me EXCEPT it is like I am missing a hand because of this issue. Deaf ears. See ya. GL. -
Hi.
I am having this very same issue when trying to print this website: https://www.etisalat.ae/en/smb/connectivity-talk/internet-bundle/150-mbps.jsp

I hope you can assist with finding a solution to this issue.
Thanks.

@Leifur I can confirm it too. Happens to me at several pages (about 10% of Amazon pages). Just for this reason, I have to switch to Edge Chromium every time it happens. Extremely inconvenient. I reported it several times in the past but the developers rather add new features than fixing a fundamental bug that makes the browser unusable on certain sites.
In addition, the Edge print windows has a much better layout. The pages selector is readily available not like here in Vivaldi where you always have to select "Custom" first before you can enter the selected pages. Also there is way too much wasted space and "More Settings" should be visible right away without having to click it. These changes would save so much time and would make the browser much more efficient.

Honestly, I can't understand why in over a year this issue hasn't been resolved at all.
There are plenty of reports, not just here but almost everywhere on the internet yet - apparently - it doesn't concern anybody the fundamental lack of a basic yet imperative function for a browser: the ability to print!
The issue not only affects printing web-pages but also PDF and other documents; and it only impacts Vivaldi, since other chromium-based browsers are unaffected.
As @beansandfranks stated over a year ago, we understand the difficult position moderators and even developers are, but it's also clear that something big is behind this issue if it can't be fixed in over a year. I love using Vivaldi, I find it solves all my needs for a browser, but I still need to have the darn printer working even if we are in 2020. Paper is still needed in some cases, and I can't switch back-and-forth between browsers just because I need to print a PDF.
I'm sad to leave Vivaldi, but this issue is really putting at a test users patience. Maybe I'll give it a try in some years, or when someone reports this issue as fixed in a consistent way. -
Would be nice to have the print page reworked from Vivaldi but I know, is a big task.
[It's a quite concerning -- and recurrent -- regression] -
