An Easter egg for April Fools’ Day
-
@OlgaA If that's true, that would hardly be fair concerning the competition.
-
It's not
month 3, date 1
yet but I think I might be finding clues as to what it is.Update: I know what it is, that's rather clever . It should always be like that.
-
@luetage: Not fair at all but let's say that it's more about the fun and less about the competition
-
@lonm: You are too clever
-
@OlgaA I'll keep it to myself to give others some time to find it.
-
@OlgaA No fair. I don't even get to look for another nine and a half hours...
-
@olgaa: Agreed it should always be like that !
-
I think I found it! That's great!
@OlgaA I sent you a private message with my find -
Question, because I'm not sure.
Is the clock (history icon) that indicates my time in the side panel a new one? -
@leighberly: The history icon is definitely different. Used to be a round clock before with the time being 4 o' clock.
-
Wow, the dynamic history clock is nice.
I hope it stays (even as an optional feature ^^) -
@apanx1 Superb! I love it! Like @Hadden89 I'd like to have it forever!
I was searching everywhere (tools, notes, shortcuts, etc.) but didn't notice that the icon was indicating the time!
Edit (4 minutes later) : the more I look to it, the more I like it!
Edit 2 : as usual, Vivaldi team shows how creative they are and, even for an April's fools day or for an Easter egg, they make something that enhances their users experience. Thank you Vivaldi! Love you! -
@apanx1: I confirm, the clock shows the current time only when it is April 1.
-
And in the end, this egg hunt will be the April Fool's prank, as there is nothing to find
Yeah, that's an interesting suggestion, but tbh i still prefer McCartney's original lyrics:
“And, in the end
The love you take
is equal to the love you make.”:face_with_stuck-out_tongue_winking_eye:

If anyone wants to mod vivaldi so this is always present, open
bundle.js
in your editor of choice, and find this text:3===e.getMonth()&&1===e.getDate()?this.setState({hour:t,minute:a}):4.5===this.state.hour&&0===this.state.minute||this.setState({hour:4.5,minute:0})
and replace it with
this.setState({hour:t,minute:a})
(Be careful editing the
bundle.js
directly, make a backup copy of it first) -
The history side-panel tab button has a live clock in it on April 1, when
3 === e.getMonth() && 1 === e.getDate()
(the month is 3 instead of 4 since JavaScript uses 0-indexed months). -
It's a cool little gimmick
What would be really cool was to have the option to have a permanent (digital) clock in the status bar. Maybe the option to have either an analog or digital clock, but analog is kind of useless at that size.
I seem to remember old Opera had a clock there, it was very useful to keep track of the time.

@moondawg: The best gag the O gang ever did, IMO, was the 'Swedish Chef' version to show that MS had a site that was "borked" as they designed it. I actually was disappointed when the next version 'corrected' the Chef-translation.
-
@ornorm: $HOUSEMATE asked, "Why make something useful like that only work on April first?" (My reply: There's usually a clock on screen anyway.)
-
I found the Easter egg. In the panel, the course is displayed today as an analog clock with moving hands. The clock shows the current time.
