How to transfer search engines to a different installation?
-
I'm wondering how could I take the search engines that are configured for a given Vivaldi installation into a different installation. I recall back in Opera 12 it was as simple as copying a
.ini
file, but I tried to copy~/.config/vivaldi/Default/Preferences
(which seems to contain the search engines) into a different installation without success. -
Search engines aren't available in Sync yet. I wrote a script to back them up until this is implemented.

That mod didn't work for me unfortunately. Did you by any chance also produce a bash script or similar?

@david-cortes Are you on stable? The mod only works on snapshot. Since stable will be updated to 2.4 soon, the mod will work on stable too in a few days. If you're on snapshot I can guarantee that the mod works, you might have an error in implementation. Best to start Vivaldi in debug mode and check what the problem is.
You could also run the elementary parts of the code in devevloper tools to trigger the backup and restore manually, but it's easier to just use the mod.

@luetage Was actually on stable, will try it again on the next upgrade.

@david-cortes https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/16684/inspecting-vivaldi-s-ui-with-devtools
Right click on UI, hit inspect and open console. Look for errors in custom.js (or whatever the file is called you have saved the mod to).
