Pinned Tabs not Restored After Update
-
@pafflick
Well, first of all, pinned tabs MUST load after the update, since I have that option enabled. This part is clearly a bug.Second, I don't consider this case a regular browser start. Since you have to restart the browser to apply the update, which interrupts your workflow, the whole session should be restored automatically, independently from the start up settings.
I would put this into the same category where the program crash is. If you don't want to close the browser explicitly, but you have to, or it happens because of an error, your session should be restored without a question.

Where did you enable it? AFAIK there is no option to restore pinned tabs after a browser restart - it's the default behavior. The pinned tabs are supposed to be always restored after a restart. If they're not - then that's a bug indeed.

I'm afraid that the program's operations are not dependent on your "considerations" - for the browser itself it's just a regular launch, like any other. To make a distinction here, the developers would have to specifically address that.

Well, you don't have to - you can choose to install the update later. The dialog is not prompting you to do it right away, you can use the browser while it stays in the background.
But I agree that an option to restore the current session after upgrading the browser would be useful. It could be a checkbox in the dialog window, for example. IMO this whole update process in Vivaldi is far from ideal, I'm also hoping for some improvement here as well... -
@pafflick
The update process is good as it is. I don't want silent updates.And it should not be just a regular launch for the browser. I should update its files when I tell it to do so, and then restore my session without anything being lost.

@Nekomajin thanks for your comment and sorry for the trouble. I understand how annoying it is losing tabs when an autoupdate is being pushed and your session is not retrieved. As @Pesala and @pafflick mentioned your settings screenshot doesn't allow to start with last session so to get around this annoyance in case you want to keep the settings as is, is to retrieve your tabs via Trash can where your closed tabs are. I hope this helps.

@gaelle
The trash helps, but I still think a forced restart after an update should work differently than normal restarts. -
@Nekomajin it does make sense. Have you asked for this feature already on the forum or via our bugtracker? If so what's the link to the thread/VB-number?
-
@gaelle
I have reported the pinned tabs issue after the v2.2 update: VB-47566There is a separate request to load the whole session by someone else.
-
@Nekomajin thanks for reporting VB-47566. FYI it was closed cause it couldn't be reproduced internally. We understand your expectations and for now Vivaldi won't behave differently from what you put in your settings also when updating your browser.
It'd be great though if you'd ping me regarding the loading of the whole session.
-
@gaelle
What do you mean by pinging? -
@Nekomajin ping me = notify me. It can be either here (or in any other post) by mentioning my username with an @ in front of it or via private message.
-
@gaelle
I understood that part. But what should I ping you with? -
@Nekomajin you mentioned here
There is a separate request to load the whole session by someone else.
Please ping me about this one cause I didn't find it yet

@gaelle
I was lame, sorry.Here is the link: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/34373/restore-open-tabs-after-an-update
(This thread was moved from the linked one, because Pesala thought it's off topic.)

@Nekomajin it's all good Thanks a mil for the link!
