Startpage.com Opens search in new window, even when set not to.
-
More or less the title. Startpage.com launches links in new window, despite being explicitly set not to do so. Did not have this problem in Chrome before I switched (albeit, a real nitpick when set against everything else that was wrong with Chrome).
I'd say Vivaldi is refusing to keep the cookie that sets this, but when I go back to Startpage's settings, "Open search result in a new window" is indeed still off.
It does seem to behave proper the first time it is set, but not come the next search (despite, yes, the setting still being off).

I had the same issue in the past. See if helps. Open startpage.com, click on the green padlock at the left side the Address Bar >> Site settings, Pop-ups and redirects should be set as Block (Default)

@bugmenot3 I can't make it do this. What method are you using to search on StartPage?

Seems it is already set.

URL: https://www.startpage.com/do/dsearch?query=%s
( Suggestions: https://www.startpage.com/cgi-bin/csuggest?query=%s&limit=10&lang=english&format=json )Actually... Well this is odd. I noticed I neglected to set it to "private" (I don't use Start Page outta paranoia, but more due to the fact that Google's image search has been useless since the Getty Greed incident). So I checked that, and well... Now it works. shrug
So, I guess we can call that resolved, though some entrepid dev might wanna try to reproduce it to see what caused it.
PS. Great browser, by the way. I am truly ashamed I did not switch to this sooner.

@bugmenot3 Hm. I don't have StartPage set as my "private" search engine, either. (you are not setting the engine to private - you are selecting it as the default engine for private windows) And yet, it does not mess up. I think there may be a glitch in your profile.

@Gwen-Dragon The open results in a new tab is the startpage default, Vivaldi ignore the page weird pref by blockling Pop-ups and redirects by default. It works perfectly for me. I will ping Liz.
The prefs can be saved in an URL. -

@bugmenot3 the pre-configured Vivaldi (
…/rvd/…
) search endpoint ignores cookie and URL parameters, even after the site redesign.
The generic search URL (…/do/…
) still supports both.ModEdit: Content added
A search entry with (working) disabled open in new window option would be:
https://www.startpage.com/do/search?prfh=disable_open_in_new_windowEEE1&query=%s
@gwen-dragon disabling the new window option (on a page with working URL processing) seems to require the encoded
=1
to trigger. -
