What is purpose of searchbox?

What is search box good for? I can search from address bar. How do you use search box?
-
searching for url's is one useful feature of a separate search box also being able to manually select a search engine from a visible list is useful as well.
-
Ok. It does make sense.
-
No idea if anyone does the same but in some cases I use searchbox to store some text for a moment (but you need to be careful if autosearch is enabled and you put some sensitive information there).

Back in the days of drop down arrows in the address bar, I'd use the things I typed into the address bar as sort of transitory bookmarks. I'd do all my searching from the search box, to keep my drop down "clean". When the Dark Times hit w/ O15, I moved to Sleipnir, which still has a drop down URL box and a search box. It's my preferred setup.

BTW for people who don't understand the function of the searachbox, there is a new option to disable it in the latest snapshot.

Maybe I'm just a grandpa but I like a clear separation between addressbar and searchbox.
Meaning the adressbar should only do network lookups.
For searches I use in Opera this bar (see attachment) I don't even know what is called.

Haha, I do that too Like when I'm having trouble logging in somewhere, I first type my password there, just to see if I'm getting it right

@RRR13:
So, did you delete all the search engines from Opera to make the address bar not search anything?
That is not possible. Opera adds Google, Bing and Amazon back automatically when you delete them.
If I remember correctly Opera was the last major browser mixing search and address bar though. Now you have to add a "/" to your input to get a network lookup. It then tries several configurable combinations of hostnames.

Ohhh, this!
Still using Opera 12 and avoid searching using the normal address bar because I still use the drop down arrow. And want that list clean and only display the previous sites I actually typed and not all the random stuff I've searched for -
Good, option to remove was one of the things I hoped for. Using the address field for this is way more effective as you can do alt+d + g + search.
Personally I don't see any use for the extra search field and it just annoys me.
