Vivaldi crashes when closing the last open tab in a window + Sync everytime I open the app
-
Like the title says, the whole app crashes when I close the last tab in that window and everytime I have to open the app again I get the sync panel to input my password... this is, to say the least, annoying.
I had this behavior in the snapshot like 2 months ago and I decided to switch for stable, but now apparently the bug wasn't fixed and it's in stable as well.
Here's the last apple crash log I got: https://pastebin.com/THBnb0GP

If anybody is interested, this is happening because of the 1password chrome extension.
-
Hi @rojo I have Vivaldi installed on an iMac and on a MBP, both are running 1Password 7 with the browser extension, but only the iMac crashes when the last tab is closed. I do know that I had 1Password 6 installed on my iMac and I updated the MBP before the iMac to the latest 1Password... I don't know if this sequence order changed how Vivaldi deals with the extension?
-
The error is with the 1password extension that requires the desktop app.
I have the latest version of 1password, but I highly doubt thats a factor.
I know this is responsibility of the 1password team to fix, but I'd be happy to give all info I can if it helps solve this from the Vivaldi side.
So far I haven't received any replies from the devs giving me feedback on whats the status/priority/way to proceed for this, at least that would be nice.
Anyway, I hope this gets fixed.

Hi there,
for me the problem was resolved with the current Vivaldi stable version released this week.
Vivaldi 2.3.1440.41 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
https://vivaldi.com/download/
I'm using the 1Password chrome extension in version Version 4.7.3.90.
Hope this helps and you will resolve you problems soon. All the best

@ChrisDailyGrind I am using the same version of the 1Password extension and Vivaldi but still get the crash.
However if I disable the 1Password extension entirely, I do not get the crash. So 1Password definitely seems to be involved.

For me the problem is still there.
-
same here, updated Vivaldi to 2.3.1440.41, keeps crashing with 1password extension after closing last tab
with extension disabled, after closing last tab, app keeps going
working on Sierraedit: on my old Mac home with El Capitan installed, Vivaldi keeps working with 1password extension even after closing last tab

Did update Vivaldi today, still crashing.

@Gwen-Dragon is there anyway we can know whats the status for this?
I got a mail a few weeks ago saying that they couldn't replicate the error therefore they won't try to fix it, which makes me think there's a total disconnection between what we've been discussing in the forums and the first report I created.I mean, redirecting people to a special bug reporting platform is ok, but disregarding a ticket entirely without checking later related comments is counterproductive imho.
I'd change the ticket to have more information, but this is not possible, it's not even possible for me to check the same ticket later after it was reported.

@rojo I pointed the Vivaldi team to the discussions that have been going on here in the Mac Forum, and also to a thread in the AgileBits Forum discussing the Vivaldi crash. I've also asked testers not to be so quick to close the 1Password-related crash bugs if they cannot reproduce them because clearly this is an issue.
Some good news: a member of the QA team has confirmed the crash and there is a confirmed bug (VB-47521) that will likely serve as the master bug for the "Crash on close with 1Password" issue. It looks like the crash still does not reproduce consistently on all systems but it is being investigated.

@xyzzy thx a lot man, is nice to know you're moving forward.
-
@ChrisDailyGrind Sadly I have to report the problem is recurring again for me.
- Vivaldi 2.3.1440.48 (Stable channel) (64-Bit)
- 1Password 7.2.5
- 1Password Extension 4.7.3.90
-
@Gwen-Dragon yes, I did report and sent logs
-
Any progress on this issue?
- 2.3.1440.61 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
- 1Password 7.2.5
- 1Password Extension 4.7.3.90
-
Workaround: I avoid the error by enabling the "Don't Close Window with Last Tab" setting in the Tabs area.
-
@langtind Thanks for asking. Last I checked, the devs were actively investigating a few different crash-on-close bugs. Has anything changed for you (for the better or worse) since 2.4 got released?

One thing I noticed is that if you close the window (with one or more tabs) by clicking the close button (red button in the upper left corner), Vivaldi doesn't crash. Closing the last tab by clicking either the close button on the tab itself or by using keyboard shortcut (cmd+w) crashes the app.
Not sure if this information is useful for the devs, but it doesn't hurt to point it out
