Some of Twitter's videos' sound stops playing after 9 seconds
-
Hi,
In Twitter, the sound of some videos stops playing after 9 seconds (the same happens in Opera too). I tried it again after deactivating all extensions, didn't help. It plays fully in Chrome and Firefox although it changes weirdly (as if a covered microphone were freed) at 0:09.
Any similar experiences and/or solutions?
-
@sanon Unfortunately, same experience for me. I noticed that issue +/- 1 month ago; then, I was lucky enough not to have the issue for a few days and now, the issue is back (9th second like you and I noticed the same problem with Opera but not with Firefox).
-
Same for me.
The beginning is ok but at the second 9, the audio is interrupted (idem in blank profile) then returns towards the end. I've had this issue for a few snapshots.

@hipeline I'm on Linux using Vivaldi 2.2.1388.29 (RC2) , but have no problem here with your example video : https://twitter.com/reachaudsphere/status/1059730229751623680
As you are on MAC and @sanon is on Windows it seemed valid for me to check it!?

Registered just to report this, it's pretty annonying, always happening on Twitter

@Kyanni Welcome to the forum and enjoy Vivaldi Browser.
Could you please [add] video address?Edited: the word [add]

@lamarca Thank you.

@Kyanni You are welcome. The video plays fine for me.
Can you repro the first video of the test case below? -
@lamarca @Gwen-Dragon
I can play all 3 videos of the test case without any problem; I will do the test again when the bug occurs.
- I encounter the bug on my desktop AND my laptop.
- When the PC is just booted, the videos are normally playable.
- Once the bug appeared, nothing fixes the problem except a complete restart of the PC. Closing and then re-opening a session does not fix the problem.
- Unfortunately I can't identify any event that causes this bug
Once the bug appeared all the videos are affected.[EDIT]- the twitter panel version is subject to the same bug (mobile version)
Oddly, I note that 3 out of 5 "victims" are French.

I never encounter any problems with the Vivaldi browser (youtube, facebook, dailymotion, online radio, etc.) or with video player (vlc/mpc-hc).
Only twitter is impacted.My audio devices are : realtek high def audio, bluetooth, and Intel(R) Display Audio (hdmi 2nd display). All audio drivers are up to date (no sound card).

@Gwen-Dragon

I can confirm exactly after 9 seconds.
I'm on Win 10 version 1803, Realtek High Definition Audio.

In vivaldi://media-internals I see this:
**audio decoder config changed midstream**, new config: codec: aac, bytes_per_channel: 2, channel_layout: 2, channels: 1, samples_per_second: 44100, sample_format: 2, bytes_per_frame: 2, seek_preroll: 0us, codec_delay: 0, has extra data: true, encryption scheme: Unencrypted, discard decoder delay: false
That is very similar to what I see for videos here:
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/32254/h-264-hardware-decode-weirdness
By using other Chromium based browsers there isn't any "*audio/video decoder config changed midstream".
-
Here what says Brave://media-internals for info about that video audio:
Selected FFmpegAudioDecoder for audio decoding, config: codec: aac, bytes_per_channel: 2, channel_layout: 3, channels: 2, samples_per_second: 44100, sample_format: 2, bytes_per_frame: 4, seek_preroll: 0us, codec_delay: 0, has extra data: false, encryption scheme: Unencrypted, discard decoder delay: false

Filed bug VB-47716
-
Still occuring

It happens for me too on Windows 10. I'm not an expert my guess would be that Chromium, by default, doesn't support all standard audio/video codecs that Chrome has (https://chromium.googlesource.com/chromium/src/+/HEAD/docs/chromium_browser_vs_google_chrome.md), and the Vivaldi developers had trouble implementing the codecs for all platforms.
-
I've been having this same issue off and on since I started using this browser several months ago. I've determined that it only happens 9 seconds in on any video with audio, but only if that video is the first twitter video played in Vivaldi after the browser is first opened from a complete shutdown. I've tested it in incognito mode and it happens there as well. I've submitted it as bug report VB-49533, and I've reproduced it on these two tweets https://twitter.com/TheKatalyst_/status/1096572913560494081 https://twitter.com/aligatie/status/1095810701577220097. The audio continues to remain bugged even after Vivaldi has been reset.

Same thing happening to me with many videos in twitter. For example this video:
https://twitter.com/carlosramirezl3/status/1099851906183299073
Exactly at the 9 seconds mark. Windows 10 user.
Firefox, chrone and internet explorer play the video without any issue.
