Different ways of Switching Tabs for Different ways of Activating the Switcher
-
First off, sorry if the title is not descriptive enough, feel free to suggest a better one. Anyway, here goes: I think it would be useful to have some customisation to the way tabs are switched. As of now, there are at least four ways to switch tabs by default:
Ctrl+Tab
/Ctrl+Shift+Tab
- Scroll over the tab bar
Alt+WheelUp
/Alt+WheelDown
MouseRight+WheelUp
/MouseRight+WheelDown
So, for example, I want to be able to have
Ctrl+Tab
/Ctrl+Shift+Tab
to show the Tab Cycler and switch in recently used order, butAlt+WheelUp
/Alt+WheelDown
andMouseRight+WheelUp
/MouseRight+WheelDown
to switch in tab bar order without showing the Cycler (like scrolling over the tab bar does now). As it is now, I can disable the cycler, but that disables it altogether. Does that make sense?P.S. I now realise that this would be mostly possible if we could just customise
Alt+Wheel
andMouseRight+Wheel
shortcuts (like we could in Opera 12). -

You forgot to mention that you can create mouse gestures to switch tabs (see Settings --> Mouse --> click on the plus to create a new gesture) and there of course is the quick commands menu (just press "F2"). ^^EDIT: Oh and I forgot about the window panel (of course including its own mouse gestures and shortcuts)

@zaibon Yeah, that could be a possibility if I had some convenient gestures that are not already set to do something (or, while we're at it, if we could set up a gesture like
GestureLeft FlipBack
, again like in Opera 12).
But then again, I would rather use the scroll wheel with a modifier key (I don't know if that counts as a gesture) since it's easy to repeat it - other gestures involving mouse movement seem better suited to things you do once, not something you might repeat 3-4 times. -

mouse gestures to switch tabs
Yeah! These are great; my heaviest-use MGs are indeed those i use several dozens [guestimate] of times every day to switch my tabs left & right [or atm, given i'm having another dalliance with vertical tabs, up & down], followed very closely by my MGs to reload tabs, close tabs, go back/fwd in history, rewind history, scroll page to top/bottom, scroll down/up... I worship my MGs coz they save me from the otherwise dastardly horror of needing to touch my dark dirty smelly keyboard - yuck eek

And I was always wondering for whom they build such comfortable but still fashionable accessoires - now I know ^^
Back to topic: @killchain what do you mean by
flipback
?EDIT: The spoiler thing in markdown just cost me about one year of my life - this is nothing close to be healthy ..... can we please get a point and click option for this? So I don't have to try a gazillion times for a simple joke?
EDIT2: @Pesala thanks for the clarification

@zaibon Also known as Rocker Gestures in Settings, Mouse.
- FlipBack = Hold RMB, Click LMB
- FlipForward = Hold LMB, Click RMB
There are a lot of assignable shortcuts for tab switching.
