Trouble with installing vivaldi on my opensuse workstation
-
Hi everyone
I recently had to install vivaldi on my workstation which run opensuse. To install it I tried to download 64bit RPM package from vivaldi.com and execute it with program manager included in my distro. During the installation I haven't noticed any errors but after I didn't see vivaldi installed either. Did somebody already run vivaldi on opensuse? Any help will be appreciated, thanks.

Does the folder /opt/vivaldi exist? At least, that's where Mageia installs it ... it could be that the files were installed correctly but no menu shortcut was created.

@Lampadron
Hi, or check with Yast if Vivaldi is installed and the repository is added to the repro list.
I install downloaded rpm´s with:
rpm -ihv vivaldi-....rpm
In a terminal and add shortcut manual anyway.Cheers, mib

I was running it on openSUSE yesterday and one of our employees is a SUSE fan and uses it as his main distro.
Try using these directions and let me know if any errors are output during the steps

What are you talking about? The .desktop file is setup automatically. There is no need to manually add a shortcut

@ruario
Hi, not for me,I install Vivaldi with rpm since 4 Years or so.
Never got .desktop file setup automatically.
May if I add repro first and then install? Should not make any difference, should it?
Not a problem for me, if it work for other user, fine.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Hmm… that makes zero sense to me. I have never had (or heard of) that problem and looking through the bugs database I do not see a single report of something like this, unless I am composing my search wrong.
Unless there are more reports of this I am strongly suspecting it is something about your system or setup.

@mib2berlin I just setup a clean VM of the latest openSUSE and checked this for myself. The desktop file was setup without issue. Here is a video of me doing it

@ruario, I trust you, some things coming in my mind are.
- I do not mention I am on Tumbleweed, sorry for that.
- I use rpm not zypper!
- I use Folder view not Desktop view (dunno the exact English names).
The possible entries are: ~/Schreibtisch or ~/Arbeitsfläche (ger. Working Surface) or ~/Desktop but I have only ~/Schreibtisch (ger. Desktop).
It is really not important for me but may new user are confused about.
Cheers, mib
