Configurable address toolbar and finer grained control on muting – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1369.6
-
umm, but how am I supposed to move around these buttons? I mean: what's the point of releasing another half (well, not even that) baked feature? yeah, snapshot are pretty much nightlies but still I don't think you should merge feature branches on a daily basis, instead you should do it only when feature seems to be complete and needs testing and polishing
-
@zakius That's not what this feature is about, it's about enabling/disabling toolbar buttons. And we always had the ability to move buttons/elements with custom modifications. Vivaldi has been the most customisable browser out there right from its release. That's what really matters.
-
Nice updates! Thank you!

I don't think you quite understand what "nightlies" are. They are supposed to be for merging branches as they are done, to reveal any issues or to experiment with them.
The only time you wouldn't merge a branch is if there was a risk of data loss through a feature being incomplete, or if a particular feature is useless without its dependencies not being ready yet. For example, mail is in a workable state but its not good enough to reveal to the snapshot users just yet.

I'd love a filter input box on speed dial, I have a folder with some stuff "for later", it's very long, and I know a specific thing I'd like to see now - i can currently search via address bar everywhere, go to bookmarks and search there, still ignoring other folders. So searching (hiding filtered out results) only in current speed dial folder would be a thing!
Global search there is just not for me, but thanks for improvements. Many more thanks for option to hide it
-
@luetage True. It was more a generic feedback, as I'm testing this new behaviour on the test snapshot. And yeah, never liked the dropdown (especially as I have panel on right). Thanks to let me know that
you can't pull extensions in and out of this, you have to right click and show/hide
. The function still need some work - as you actually can't officially hide the buttons (without mods) and the naming is slightly misleading - but I guess and hope is going in the right way ^^, -
Still no customizable mouse chording. Oh well, maybe next release.

@ruario said Configurable address toolbar and finer grained control on muting...
Thanks for that Vivaldi Team! I'm still waiting for a tab separator in the tab bar.
Also, when is the android version ready for general availability?mf

Really good additions. Personally, I might not use the search bar on speed dial. BUT, it seems to be a great place to also have QC.
-
Step in the right direction. I guess/hope it is just the first step.
It messed up my custom css in which i had rearrange the buttons(hidden/moved) In previous versions it was pretty easy to switch position of the buttons by simply specifying flex order in css. Now it will be a little harder and less reliable by using nth-child if there won't be any classes in the divs containing button. At least until vivaldi finally gets the ability to rearrange those toolbar items by drag and drop.Would be more happy if the "user css" could finally be saved in User Data directory... Instead of applying it every time after install/update.
Or if Shift|Alt+Enter would work in every input field on the page just like in the address bar. Those(shift+enter, double click tab bar to open new tab) are the small things that i really miss from the good old presto days. -
@pesala In my opinion the search field in the Address Bar should reset to the default, too (at least there should be an option for this). I mean, what's the point of a default search engine, when the browser does not default to it?
-
@rexfahrer What's the point of being able to change it at all if it immediately reverts to the default? After a restart of Vivaldi is not a problem, but every time you open a new tab? That would be infuriating.
Say, you want to do some shopping on Amazon, but your default search engine on the Start Page or in the Address Bar Search Field is DuckDuckGo.
Change it to Amazon, and when you're done, or want to start searching on E-bay, change it again. Then when you're done searching, forget about it. Next time you restart Vivaldi it will be DuckDuckGo again.

Not for me I use the search differently: Most of time I use DuckDuckGo for searching and when I use a different search engine, I seldomly use it twice in a row. When searching something on e.g. ebay, I use the search field once and ebay's own search field after that.
Then when you're done searching, forget about it.
That's exactly the point: In a new tab I want everything to be in it's default state, so I don't have to look which search engine is active. This is annoying to me, because you can't see which search engine is selected when something is already entered.

So Friday is okay for a push to production after all

Anyone else having a major problem on linux?
- I can't switch tabs using the Window sidebar, with activate on single click enabled. Can switch tabs on tab bar fine.
- Page cannot create new window/tab. Nothing happens.
2a. After trying to create new window/tab, the whole browser locks up but the currently displaying page is fine. Just can't add/close/switch tabs even with the tab bar.
-
@fangsta I'll have to update my linux system and the browser to test this. Are you using Stable or Snapshot (2.1 or 2.2) version?
-
@mib2berlin Ditto Manjaro [thankfully as well as NF, ABC (Oz) iView now also works again].

ability to move buttons.. with custom modifications
I do not use CMs, yet can still rearrange my Extension icons just by dragging & dropping them. I'm sure you already know that so i intuit you were actually referring to something else; what pls?

I'm on Linux Mint 18.3 64 bit. This happens even after a system reboot.

@ayespy: 2.2.1369.6 (Official Build) snapshot (64-bit)
