Warn me about deleting mods before updating
-
It'd be good to have (maybe optional) a message box in update notifier that tells me I should save my custom mods.
(I often change them and link from browser.html doesn't work for me so I usually forgot I should save them.) -
@potmeklecbohdan Not a bad idea, but then again you should always have a copy of your mods outside the application. After an update the old version should be in the trash (no idea what happens on windows tbh), therefore you can still salvage your mod files in a case of emergency.
-
@potmeklecbohdan This is putting the cart before the horse.
Vote for Preserve Custom Modifications Across Upgrades then we won't need any warning.

@pesala That's only possible if the mod files are moved outside of the application, like it's being handled on Firefox. This would demand commitment to custom modifications and official support. Don't think this will happen soon – as an intermediate solution this request makes sense and is very easy to implement.
-
@pesala I've posted this request because it should be much easier so it could be in the next snapshot.
-
@potmeklecbohdan Ok, on macOS the whole application is in the trash and you can still access the contents when you move it back out. I wonder how the app vaporises on windows

@luetage I keep my custom.css mods and custom thumbnails in the O:\Vivaldi\ folder. They are never lost on updating, but just in case I also archive them and back them up to DropBox.
After updating Vivaldi, I copy and paste the mods to common.css.
Sorry, but I don't think users should be hacking anything unless they know how to keep backups.
Keeping mods across upgrades is about saving time, not preserving data. For me it would save about 30 seconds, but it would still be nice to have. I was the first to vote for it.
-
@pesala 30 seconds? That's only that long because you haven't implemented a batch script yet. Automating should lower this to 2 seconds and 5 keypresses

Thank you for your request. As this post has had less than 5 votes over 4 years it will now be archived.
