New snapshot of Vivaldi is ready for download!
-
Hi, We have a new snapshot of Vivaldi ready for you guys: https://vivaldi.net/en-US/blogs/entry/snapshot-1-0-98-2 Christian, Vivaldi Technologies
-
Awesome!
" option to move the address-field to the bottom"
Interesting concept, was this a requested feature? I'll have to try it out.
-
Looks like the session management is fixed.
The address bar position option is nice too.
-
Thank to these guys at Vivaldi for the new snapshot.
Features (?) I missing:
- Still no support for center-click (middle-click) to open a link from bookmarks to a background tab.
- No download speed in the download panel.
- I still can't add a new note from the selected text in a webpage.
-
CTRL+F -> Find in Page is not working any more.
Find in Page over menu is working.Like to see . (point) to open finde in page again like in Opera.
-
"open file" from download manager context menu does not work
"open in new tab" from bookmarks library context menu does not work very well, several pages dont load correctly, I see only a blank tab.
recycle bin icon is out of screen when many tabs are open
custom keyboard shortcuts (I used ctrl+f12 to open settings) are still not working. -
Still no Bookmarks Bar.
-
Still no Bookmarks Bar.
I clone what I've already written elsewhere.
I respect the other users habits.
But I really can't understand why, having a powerful browser like Opera, one should use a such outdated way to access some bookmarks, especially now that the pointless 16/9 screens is almost the only display option, wasting some additional vertical space is really a pity.
-
Because we need those 20-30 bookmarks and folder all day, every day, without delay - and although I have my bookmarks panel always open to a folder that has them, and placed on the right side, it cannot be narrowed enough to approximate a bar rather than a panel, it doesn't behave like a proper bar, and I can't keep it there while opening email so as to have email and the bar available at the same time.
That's why.
-
CTRL+F -> Find in Page is not working any more.
Find in Page over menu is working. The release notes for this snapshot actually say this, in the "regression' section. However, my ctrl+f still seems to work fine. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-
Searches at, for instance, this page: https://aivitals.co.clark.nv.us/WebPIInternet/
Still reliably crash browser every time.

I have them to, obviously. But given the presence of the spped dial (mine is 9x5 in Opera 12) the start bar with the top ten list , the drop down arrow with the recently typed ones, and the completion for the frequently used I always looked at the bookamark bar to something of outdated, 10 years ago.
Practically I can access to 70/80 urls w/o touching any "classic" bookmark.
I keep the proper bookmark to sync them, and to collect and archive the urls rarely used.
-
Yeah. The trouble with speed dial is, it's a separate page, not present on EVERY page, at all time. Opening a page to get to your speed dial is a waste of time and tabspace. Speed dial is fine as a home page, but not a substitute for bookmarks.

But the start page is.
Opening a page to get to your speed dial is a waste of time and tabspace.
No is not.
(I use a per column subject. Eg: First column the news, italian and international newspaper, the second one is for italian tech news, the third for the international, and so on. The 9th is for personal things… Facebook, some webmail services, the customer page of service providers and so on).
so
Case A
I start the browser for the first time, I have the speed dial with all 54 thumbnails clearly visible and identifiable.
I middle click on (say) ten thumbnails to have all the tab I need usually, so one click per site reached.Case B
I restart the browser from last session. So I have (say) ten tabs already opened. If I need more, I open a new page, and then I do the same as case A. So less than one click per page (on average). Usually way less than 0.5 click per tab.
Case C
I need to do some random navigation on less used of my links.
I can just reuse the page I've in front clicking back once an then clicking on one or more thumbnails. So its between 1 an 2 click per page.Doing an average of case A,B and C I get something around one click per page.
On the other hand.
Using a bookmark bar we have two main cases
Case A
I want to reach a bookmarked website on the actual page.
So one click, one page. One page per click
Case B
I want to open a new web page, so I can open a new page then I click on the bar. Two click per page.
I can also middle click on a bookmark, getting one click per page again, but unlike the SD way, the new page will be in focus. Something that usually I find not convenient, because I don't want to wait.
All in all, same as above. On average it's between 1 and 2 click per page. But with some cons (space wasted and page focused before thy are loaded).
Don't get me wrong I don't want to change your mind. I just wanted to explain my point with some practical examples.
I repeat endlessly that the power of opera is the "biodiversity" of its user base, and its way to please them all.
-
I repeat endlessly that the power of opera is the "biodiversity" of its user base, and its way to please them all.
On this much we agree - with the proviso that when you say "Opera" you mean "Vivaldi."
We each know what works for us. But only with Vivaldi will we both be allowed to DO what works for us, though our needs are different.
-
Different people, different use-cases, different needs.
Now in my case, I could never remember 81 numbers to know WHICH speed dial to call up. To make matters worse, my bookmarks bar gives me one or two step access to over a hundred bookmarks either directly or in one of five folders - and I don't have to remember anything. I either select the matching favicon or jump into one of the folders and do so. And I do it all day, every day, without ever changing the page I am on, necessarily.
-
"But, most times, each address has its own tab, which I can reopen from the recently closed list."
Wow. I could never do that. The proliferation of tabs would kill me.
Which just goes to show you how different people and different use cases have to be allowed for, and cannot be assumed in advance.

ATTENTION: Vivaldi Snapshot users on Linux, and if you notice your bookmarks; previously opened pages; recent tabs; notes; and settings gone, and it opens the default homepage (currently: vivaldi.com) please read on!
WARNING: When you upgrade to 1.0.98.2 vivaldi-snapshot, and you open the browser, it will look like you opened it for the first time! Hey don't panic I came up with a solution that will help you get your profile back to the way you had it before the upgrade!
Steps:
1.) Open the file manager of your choice!
2.) Navigate to ~/.config/vivaldi-unstable
3.) Copy the folder named Default
4.) Navigate to ~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot
5.) Delete the new Default folder that is in there!
6.) Paste the old Default folder you copied earlier on!
7.) Close your file manager
8.) Open the Vivaldi Web Browser and tada your browser is back the way it should be!Hope this helps

Sometimes the browser dissappears but all the .exes stay on so if you had music from youtube you can still hear it.
Can be fixed with closing all the .exes and relaunching but really annoying bug! -

Is this the weekly?
If so, is the naming scheme for the installer changed for good?
I see on vivaldi.com the previous weekly is still available for download instead of this new one.Admin?
Anyone?VB-3208 Rename rpm&deb packages, stable->preview & unstable->snapshot
