Size limits to history?
-
I was wax nostalgic of the old web, so I checked my firefox history to see what my browsing habits were 10 years ago. Found out it didn't go that far back and the browser has a history limit for perf reasons. That sucks, even last.fm has kept my listening history for longer.
Is Vivaldi the same? Can I depend on it to keep my history a decade from now? Will it sync such a large history?
-
This is currently my main reason to switch to Vivaldi. It now has the synchronization feature I've been waiting for. But it's not opensource like Firefox. Vivaldi keeping infinite history would be an immediate go-to for me.
Can someone answer this please ? -
Menu Tools/Settings/privacy (alt-P)
set your Save Browser History limit yourself, even Session only if you're extremely paranoid, or Forever, if you don't care like me. -
@ian-coog The question is not about limiting history, but how long will Vivaldi keep it. Does Settings, Privacy, Save Browsing History, Forever literally mean that, or is there some size limit?
-
@pesala when I'll reach eternity I can answer to that, for now I guess the limit is the available disk space

History hasn't a limit - if you don't clean it. For performance, just use "show last week" in history panel and "forever" like said above to keep it all.
While Vivaldi [sync] may not be opensource, uses an encryption end-to-end, so only you have the decrypt key. (Means Vivaldi people can't access to such datas if lost - so keep it safe). -

I'm only half-paranoid then - I have changed it to "one year", but I do most of my browsing in private windows...
