List of webs that do not accept Vivaldi

@lonm Good point. Thanks for that.

@lonm said in List of webs that do not accept Vivaldi:
Important: tell the developers of these misconfigured sites about:
- Vivaldi - it is based on Chrome anyway
- Why user agent sniffing is bad
- To consider using JavaScript to query features instead
Simply placing an item in the list here will do nothing to alleviate the situation, other than making other forum users aware of sites that don't work properly.
It is true that the links in this forum do not get much, but they can be useful for the user to know which websites need a UA switcher
@Ornorm. the GDoc is not a bad idea, maybe it would be better to make a list than this thread with both Off Topics in between
Maybe I create a list, as with extensions, depending on how many sites are reported. -
@catweazle Yes, it was based on @potmeklecbohdan suggestion. I just thought : "poor Catweazle, this would become a long and boring task for him"
We might maybe require, for those kind of threads, to have a new forum feature to encompass such lists at the top of the threads. -
Yes, it may be an option to add something like that to the forum, but with GDocs it is equally possible, since you can share collaboratively, In the extensions, many of the entries are made by other users and anyone can add the extension that he likes it and it works well with Vivaldi
-
@catweazle Just created a forum feature request just in case...
-
@greybeard Here is another one- Shopify, the largest ecommerce site provider:
-
@gwen-dragon You need to have a Shopify account. Try to log-in and there will be a blank page instead of the dashboard with the following message:
"Your browser needs to be updated
Youโre using version 2.1.1317.4 of Vivaldi, which is not supported by Shopify. If you are unsure of how to upgrade, we recommend using the Google Chrome browser, since it can update automatically.
Get Google Chrome"
-
@rhk they need to whitelist Vivaldi, they're doing something wrong. Tell them if you are a customer.
-
@ian-coog I know, I already told them weeks ago but no luck yet.
-
@catweazle Perhaps the 1st post should also include a guide on how to switch the UA in order to verify that this is really the problem? (using Developer tools and/or extension)?

Those who have enough knowledge can configure it in Developer tools, which has already been explained in several forum posts, but most users will use a UA switcher for more convenience, like this one.
But I still think that the websites that use the UA sniffing discriminatory do not deserve any confidence, because for me it is a direct disdain to the user -
Best solution for this thread would be something like the "prototype" of the feature requests (before categorization):
Help:
Why sites say V is not supported;
How to spoof user agents (devtools or store way);Replies:
One reply = site link and issues shown. (Will work with user agent spoof?)
Off topics removed.Or even a gdrive sheet file like the one for extensions is fine.
But keeping it in forum seems a cleanest solution. -
https://it.savefrom.net/user.php?vid=387#helper_install
1] Vivaldi is not supported. Don't click on green buttons.2] Reload page with spoofed User Agent (Chrome or Firefox should work).
3] Scroll to the bottom of the page.
4] There are a lot of the supported browser.
Fun fact: it supports chromium and even exist in Tampermonkey script form: both ways works and are supported by V.
-
Vivaldi is not supported - it redirects to https://teams.microsoft.com/_#/unsupportedBrowser which says:
Hmm. Your browser version isn't supported. Quickest solution? Download the desktop app.
It'll take longer, but here are the supported browsers.
Microsoft Edge - Learn more
Google Chrome - Install for free
Mozilla Firefox - Install for freeAfter spoofing User-Agent to recent Chrome, it works flawlessly.

Google sites only admit the classic style, not the new one
For me Google Websites are working just fine, with the new styles set by default.

When I tried to enter that website, it just redirected me to Outlook, working fine for me (no User-Agent tweaks made).

Yes, I can open new format in Google Sites without problems, but not edit it without UA switcher

Yet another: https://www.acleddata.com/dashboard/
From the site:
"We've noticed that you're using an unsupported browser. The dashboard is best viewed with the latest version of Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer/Edge."Hrmph
have we a database of these sites yet?
I will inform them I am primarily a Vivaldi user and would like to be able to use the site. -

As always there are only two options, to suggest to the owner of that site to look for another webmaster, that he is capable of more than poking his nose, or use a UAswitcher (or both) -
@catweazle I have just had a reply from the admin at https://www.acleddata.com/.
He/She says that the message was outdated and has now been removed for the more modern browsers although really antiquated browsers may still receive some similar message.
[EDIT] Corrected spelling Doh! -
The browser sniffing used by web pages must be used only for statistical purposes, but never in a discriminatory manner.
What they can not do is block a user's access, just because you use a browser that is not in a list, they can very well put a notification that the browser is unknown and that the user may eventually experience compatibility problems, but never block the access, this, in my opinion, subtracts a lot of reliability from this page.
