In page search (Ctrl + F) error

I have updated multiple times with no progress on this issue as it seems not everyone is having the issue. I am still on version 1.14.1077.55.
I suggest you install the latest snapshot as a standalone version (just for testing), it won't impact your current install and you can then leave this "test" version with NO extensions. Then if you can reproduce it you can discuss it here and/or create a new bug report.

Hi there.
I’m not staying without doing nothing.I don’t really want to install parallel version because I might not use that parallel temporary Vivaldi enough to trigger the bug.
I have had my regular crashes since last time.
Just for the record but the page I was on the last time it happened is not really that important for a random bug.
I was there, looking for pocket fighter. But this time I have noticed some important details.
Last found occurrence would trigger the crashWhether it’s when I arrive on last occurrence or when I press F3 once again and it should loop back to first occurrence (I never remember), notice that it seems to always happen when I’m on last occurrence of the searched terms (here 2 of 2, previously 4 of 4, previously 3of 3, my earlier examples are no longer testable).Update: In fact it may be more often on last occurence but for the first time today, I had the crash even before the search bar appears.
Parent process could be the culprit
This time I opened sysinternals’ Process Explorer and noticed that my Vivaldi.exe was in fact probably most of the time launched through AutoHotkey.exe (AHK).
I thought maybe it could be something that would make this happen on me more often than other people. So from that time, I took care to launch Vivaldi normally (its parent process is now always the root explorer.exe).
I have also installed 64-bit version.
For one whole day, I haven’t had any crashes, so I’m crossing fingers.Update: In fact it still crashes without being launched through AHK.
Unrelated, I have noticed an issue when installing 64-bit version.
I should have thought of uninstalling 32-bit version first because the 64-bit installer did not take care of that.
So I had this error each time I launched Vivaldi from the start menu where the icon was still pointing towards 32-bit version. Now it’s fixed, I have uninstalled Vivaldi (which only uninstalled 64-bit) and manually removed the 32-bit Vivaldi from Program Files (x86).
And installed again 1.15.1147.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit) (latest to date).
-
OK this morning I had the crash again.
For the record, but it’s a private page, I was in https://www.priceminister.com/purchase?action=salelist then I clicked “Voir mes ventes finalisées” (it loads an AJAX list of sales), I search for “mix” (0 occurrences), I click again “Voir mes ventes finalisées” (it loads another AJAX list of older sales), then I search again for “mix” and it crashes on last occurrence 1 or 1.
So Auto Hotkey is not the culprit as this time it was no longer used to launche Vivaldi (the parent process is the simple root explorer.exe).
I was using the latest version “1.15.1147.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit)” (auto‐update says « You’re up to date ! ») on 64‐bit Windows 7. -
I had the crash today for the first time not on last occurrence but even right before the search bar appears.
- I was on https://github.com/metabrainz/discourse-abbrify-words/blob/master/common/head_tag.html
- I double clicked on the escapedWords word (row 30)
- I pressed Ctrl+F
Crash freeze.

(this is an old message that I found in draft mode, I don’t remember when I wrote it)
Now that I launch Vivaldi always directly and not by a macro, this bug happens very less frequently, but is still there.
Today I was looking for pays (CTRL+F, pays) in https://www.prixdutimbre.fr/conseils-pour-ladresse-dune-enveloppe-position-et-regles-typographiques/ and it crashed/froze when I reached result 2 of 2.
I’m now using Vivaldi 1.15.1147.42 (Stable channel) (64-bit) but I will update to the latest.
But as VB-36119 is not mentioned in the changelog, I don’t think this bug was worked on / reproduced / fixed in that « minor update. »
Wow I’m now in 1.15.1147.55 (Stable channel) (64-bit) and eventually knew about the 1.15 great features by reading the changelog I didn’t notice before. Bookmarks, F8 in full screen, etc. Super great.
-
As stated above, I am now in 1.15.1147.55 and it crashed again similarly.
I was at http://web.archive.org/web/20001206082200/www.mmguide.musicmatch.com/sweepstakes/bowie/index3.html now looking for 2000.
This time it froze sooner.
I typed Ctrl+F … 2 … 0 … 0 … 0 and it froze as soon as the digit 2 was input and highlighted in page, before registering my first 0 digit.
I see there is now a version 1.15.1147.65 with no mention of this VB-36119
-
Today once again but twice.
In https://musicbrainz.org/artist/44c64a30-1d58-49c5-b314-6e02fba49526 searched in page 绘卷 it crashed on first occurence, reopened Vivaldi search again, it crashed second time, on last occurence.
-
I’m up to date 1.15.1147.64 (Stable channel) (64-bit) but it happened every day this week…
Now I have to stop using Vivaldi for my work purpose because of the fear to loose a whole page of input if I search in page.
This is very a pity. -
I am unable to reproduce it here either. Try installing the latest snapshot as a Standalone install.
Are you using some Chinese input method or some other program that most of us are not?
Specs: AMD A10-6800K, 8 Gb on Win 10 64-bit • Snapshot 2.0.1302.3 (64-bit)

Try installing the latest snapshot as a Standalone install.
Well, it does not seem worked on, this ticket.
I can wait each new official version and look for VB-36119 in the changelogs. Are you using some Chinese input method or some other program that most of us are not?
Not really… Oh, wait. Good idea, actually!
Well I actually use some softwares that are listening to what I type:- AutoHotkey
It’s a hotkey scripter and it is always listening to what I type as I use it to get a better more extensive French keyboard - UniKey
It’s a Vietnamese IME that was always switched off when it happened but that is still listening to what I type, waiting for ALT+Z to switch itself on - Volumouse
Volume control hotkeys - foobar2000
A sound player with global hotkeys
I should try whole days without them to see if Vivaldi crashes… It will be difficult to not have those…
- AutoHotkey
-
It’s always when I have this crash that I notice a new version.
I am still in 1.15.1147.64 and it happened once again.Vivaldi had only been running for ten minutes, I was on https://musicbrainz.org/collection/f0574792-6af6-481e-8b2f-d5ea9fc59c4d?order=format and I looked for the 2×CD string.
Once on the sixth and last match, Vivaldi froze.
As usual, kill it, reopen, search the same thing, does not freeze.I see there is a 2.0.1309.29 version now I am about to install but the changelogs still don’t mention VB-36119.
-
@jesus2099 There must be something on your part. I'm using the search in page function and I also tried it on the website you've mentioned and I haven't had any issues. I was able to go through all the matches several times - both with the provided UI buttons and the
[F3]
key. -
Yes, I use F3 for next match. Forgot to tell.
But unfortunately, it occurs at random.
I use those sites daily but only sometimes it freezes.
I cannot understand the reasons as sometimes it occurs a few minutes after PC boot and sometimes hours. -
@gwen-dragon said in In page search (Ctrl + F) error:
[VB-36119] Is closed as Not Reproducible.
That means I have to create a new bug report next time, mentionning both VB-36119 and this topic.
Maybe the other users having this bug at the beginning of the topic, just have stopped using Vivaldi.
I can’t stop, but I can no longer use it for work stuff. -
Since I installed the new stable version about a week ago, Vivaldi started freezing sometimes when i use Find in Page. I've never experienced this bug before. I have 2.3.1440.41. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit.
I push Ctrl+F, then I start typing, and after a few letters Vivaldi freezes. This happens maybe half the time. (I never push F3.) When it freezes, the whole browser becomes unresponsive. I've never tried waiting more than a few minutes before killing it.
-
Thanks. Just for future reference, where should I go to find and check on bugs like this?
-
I meant, where do I find if "behavior x" is reported as a bug, and if so, which VB number it has?
-
@nicknu
This one is VB-36119 (you can see it more above in this topic). -

@nicknu
This one is VB-36119 (you can see it more above in this topic). That bug is closed as 'Can not reproduce' (according to Gwen-Dragon in the other thread), so I assume it can't be the same one that Gwen-Dragon was referring to as 'work is in progress'.
-
Could you please report this bug — here is how — then paste its VB-number here afterwards.
I’m relieved someone else got this bug now.
I was feeling alone.
Good to notice that I didn’t have it for quite some time but now that I have installed 2.3.1440.41 (Stable channel) (64-bit) it happened again to me with no crash logs in"%userprofile%\appdata\local\vivaldi\user data\crashpad\reports"
folder.
