Better Vivaldi Mascot Design
-
Maybe this is not the greatest feature and the top priority in the development of a browser, yet I think a better mascot would be of interest.
I raise my hand here because I don't feel very amazed when our little Vivaldi mascot appears (So, what is it's name? Fluffy or something?)
The mascot's just OK, especially in its front view. Its side view doesn't seem to fit very well with the front view.
I'd suggest a 20% cooler design pronto! haha.
What do you think?
Thanks! -

its front view
I like the front view (Antonio). The side view is... disconcerting to say the least. In fact, looking closely, it seems to be a different character, I've no idea who that is.
-
@metafaniel If you sometimes turn wifi off and play the cactus game (yes, I like it ) you will decide this is better than the "ball" Tony. But if the space between cactuses would be two or three steps bigger the ball version can be.
-
@LonM The side view comes from the mini offline T-Rex game. It seems to be a sausage of some kind haha. This Antonio guy it's cute but for me, it doesn't fit very well with the Vivaldi cutting-edge, powerful, geeky, modern, feature-rich experience Vivaldi aims to communicate IMO.
@potmeklecbohdan Well yes, a rounded character may not fit well in the game, but aside the game itself, what I mean is this I typed above...
This Tony has a cute design and it's OK but he seems to be a little awkward (yes its expression appears in an error but...)I just don't feel very proud when he appears...
I'm proud to use Vivaldi. I would like to feel proud of its mascot!
(sorry Tony and SausageMan... is nothing personal!!) -
@metafaniel since our @rarity is not very active, it may be difficult to meet that exact request.
-
We can organize a Tony design contest, the lateral vision certainly does not do him justice. It is supposed that a lava ball is, therefore, a ball and not an omelette.
PD This thread is perhaps better in a chit-chat subforum, I do not think that in feature requests it is very indicated, maybe some mod is encouraged to move it.
-
@becm HAHA! Good catch!! xD Ask Rainbow Dash at least! haha.
I wish we all could vote for some mascot suggestions, like in some Kickstarter / IndieGoGo campaigns, where people are able to vote for their favorite character. I'm not a fan of Tony but it seems it has his followers...It reminds me of Lolo from the NES game library haha, but hairier!
-
@catweazle I think it's OK where it is. It may be trivial, but still worth bringing to the developers' attention. If it gets loads of upvotes, someone might take it up.

I agree with @Pesala, I think it's in the proper place. The mascot was designed by Vivaldi employees after all and therefore it's up to them if they want to redesign it. It's part of the browser, even if it's only a marketing thing.
-
Ok, it was just an idea, since this logos is also found in Art.
I like Tony as a pet, what better than a lava ball for an Iceland product and the front design is pretty good, but put it aside as in the Dino Game, mhh, it is something like a jumping sausage, there until the Google Dino looks better. -
I for one like Tony. The problem is he's not really prominent in the browser itself – he's been left out more and more. And just maybe this hints at the fact that the devs are already looking into alternatives… just a guess.
-
About moving the thread, I think that if this keeps in track for improving the browser, it won't be offtopic. I feel the browser so... mine that I felt confident to share my thought. Yes, is trivial but it's part of the browser. I bet many have paid attention to Vivaldi just for because of a fast glare to its nice logo!
@luetage You have a good point. Maybe all that Tony needs is more presence? To be more developed as a character? Some funny hats? Who knows...
-
Where is the mascot that was on the Bug Report wizard?
-
@pesala Good question. It's gone. As said, Tony is disappearing. Thinking of it, is there any place left where the mascot is shown?
edit: other than the dino game

Tony appears on the same occasions as the Chrome dino

As we land in the realm of "must's", even maybe a nice animated version will suffice to get that wow feeling.
To be fair with Tony, even Nintendo's Kirby was supposed to be a placeholder, and it developed quite great as a character... Still Tony needs more. Vivaldi sounds like music. Tony doesn't, his name is not really related. But well...
To keep on topic, there could be tons of uses for Tony (or another character representing Vivaldi) could:- Point out new features added to the browser as a mini tutorial.
- Presence in a theme
- Presence in Vivaldi Store in at least some items if not a plushie.
- Presence in at least one embed Vivaldi buttons.
- Some presence in social networks.
Extra: (haha) Be able to defeat in a Smash-Bros-like combat or in a Kart game to:
- Firefox (yup that's his name and is not actually a fox: is a red panda) ... (really!)
- Inori Aizawa (Microsoft's Edge Asia mascot)
- Bugdroid, the Android green robot

The zero voting talks for its own haha.

Any anime fan here? I would like to see a "-tan" version of Tony like Opera-tan

I quite agree with this. It seems more in line with Khan Academy's characters than to the fantastic browser you describe.

I love the enthusiasm, folks!
Don't move the thread, it's fine to keep here. We consider this more of a brand job, but he will most likely be used in the browser as well, so it's fine.I won't go into too much detail, but I can (reluctantly) say I'm the one who has been creating the various versions of Tony we've had.
As you all have seen, character illustration is not what I do best – I work with UI and UX
I'm also partly to blame for using him less, for this very reason. It has been on my wish-list for quite some time to have someone professional create an updated version of Tony for us. I won't promise anything, but please share more of your ideas and inspiration for what you enjoy seeing, there's a lot of good insight and observation there!

@atlemo
why is the left side from Tony a little bit darker? (not darth vader dark, but...)
