Increase the contrast of panel container background for active web panels
-
Hello,
I wonder if there is an easy way to have the active web panels more visible among others.
The active web panel icon is hard to distinguish from others while using dark themes (see below the difference while using a dark theme vs. a light theme) :
Thanks in advance for your tips.//MODEDIT: Moved to the Feature Requests forum

Either make custom icons or give them a dark background. But I don't think a dark background would look any good. On dark themes the white background is added by default and in some cases it's needed, but I'm not the biggest fan of that either. But it definitely works better for dark than for light themes.
Maybe useful: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/16801/force-your-web-panels-to-display-their-favicons

@luetage Thanks a lot for your help Luetage.
However, using custom icons won't solve the issue because it is the 'highlighting' of the active icon which causes the problem (unless I misunderstood your comment).
Indeed, the contrast is perfect on light themes (on the illustration, the Bing icon is surrounded by a nice white background which clearly shows which web panel is active). -

@ornorm Yeah, I misunderstood you, what you want to change is the panel container background of the active webpanel.
You can do that of course, eg.
.theme-dark #switch button.active, .theme-dark #switch button.active:hover { background: #fff !important; }
You might wanna consider using one of the predefined Vivaldi color variables for this. Look them up and see what fits best for your needs.

@luetage Thanks again for your help Luetage.
So, I understand modding might be the only solution. I thought I was just missing something in the settings of Vivaldi (Appearance, Theme or something else). -
@ornorm Oh, we aren't on the modding forum board, lol. Well, the topic should be moved to the modding board because that's your only option indeed ^^
-
@luetage Ok, I was afraid it would be the only option...
-
@Ornorm Just found your topic...
Funny because I reported the exact same issue about dark themes to Vivaldi's tracker yesterday ^^ For me it is worth a ticket. Maybe juste a "visual design" issue, but still an annoying issue. (keeping me from using dark themes until now)
So, for info or future reference, the ticket is: VB-45000 - Bad contrast on dark theme for selected web panel@luetage : thanks for the tip!

@guilimote Thanks a lot for this information! I feel less alone

This is actually a valid feature request, so I moved it here since I haven't found any requests considering the background for web panel icons (there are similar requests but only for tabs). I have also slightly edited your first post, I hope you don't mind.

@pafflick Did you dare to change the perfect wording I used? Did you? Grrrr pafflick. This is unforgivable!
-
@ornorm Whooops! Looks like I did it again... I changed "Pafflick" to "pafflick" since it's just a nickname - not a real name - and I prefer it written in all lower-case...
-
@pafflick I'm just laughing like a kid in front of my computer due to your response. Thanks for that!

Thank you for your request. As it has received few votes over 4 years, it is now going to be archived.
