Crashes when opening developer tools
-
Ubuntu 16.04
$ apt --installed list | grep vivaldi
vivaldi-stable/stable,now 1.15.1147.55-1 amd64 [installed]When I press Ctrl+Shift+I the browser randomly crashes. It can open tools for one page and than crash with another. It also crashes for blank page/tab.
I have a crash report from /var/crash and can send the file but don't want to attach it for public access.
-
I can not repro.
Two things, I will ask the Dev if he wants to have a look.
In the meantime, open the terminal and issue or copy the following command/usr/bin/vivaldi --user-data-dir="/tmp/TEST-VIV" &
It creates a temporary Vivaldi session, will not interfere in the previous version, If you don't have crash, mean your profile is broken.

Ubuntu 16.04
The outdated version causes the crash. Please update the OS.
-
@lamarca it's not outdated. Updating is not an option because of gnome, hotkeys, layout switching and many other things broken by canonical.

If you are able to reproduce the crash, report a bug. Attach the log file, you will receive a mail with the bug number, please, post it here.

VB-42176, confirm?

@lamarca VB-42176
-
@lisio I got it (see above your reply). Thanks.
No log attached.Edit: Log uploaded.

Same here with 1.15.1147.55 (Stable channel) (64-bit) on KDE Neon.
Its intermittent but occasionally opening Devtools crashes Vivaldi.

@lisio
Unfortunately I have to tell you that Ubuntu 16.04 is not up to date. The current Long Term Support version is Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS.
Ubuntu 16.04 gets security updates, but no new program versions are installed. Just like there are no new versions of libs and this can lead to problems. -

Well said. Besides that the fix was applied on *buntu 17x.
-
@rocknrolf Every LTS release receives all maintenance updates for libs and software, not only security ones. Otherwise it wouldn't be called LTS. Don't believe me - please check official ubuntu documentation.

Which library brokes it? I'll downgrade it to previous version since it worked perfectly until this month.
-
As it has been said before, the OS is outdated, the fix applies for 17 and superior

Private / internal information.
As it seem you found the fix, please confirm we need to tag the topic as revolved.

I don't have any fixes because you do not say which package I should downgrade to use working version of browser.
As it has been said before, the OS is outdated
If you say that current stable release of Vivaldi doesn't support not-outdated LTS release of Ubuntu and I should upgrade my OS just to make single app working (and it worked before without any issues for several years) ... well, I have nothing to say about the quality of support, that's just damn perfect.

The latest *buntu is the name of the package

Your OS doesn't support, you misread my words (respectfully)
The Bug in Ctrl + Shift + I was fixed on *buntu 17x and superior. Both Stable & Snapshot -

Bug wasn't present in 16.04 two months ago. You want to say that I used vivaldi for several years in OS that doesn't support it? As a webdev I'm using dev tools extensively every single day and I know what I'm talking about when I say that it worked with no problems.
-
There are 12 reports regarding Dev Tools, including yours. Duplicated.
Status: Resolved.
I did everything. The solution is to upgrade the OS suggested by two different Linux users.
There is nothing more else I can do.Cheers

Understood. Next time we'll have to rebuild entire computer to use calc.
-
@gwen-dragon He needs to update the OS.
-
@lisio Let me get this straight. You're using a system that was built about 2.5 years ago. All programs and libs are updated and maintained. What you only partially get are newer versions of programs that no longer work with the old base system. Some things you can get through the backports.
In my opinion, an LTS system is less suitable for the desktop. Lts support is more needed in the server area.
