"Switch to Tab 1/last tab" mouse gestures have broken down
-
Hi,
After the last update to the stable v.1.15.1147.36, when these 2 commands are executed the current tab switches to the first (or to the last) tab but it reverts back in the blink of an eye which means practically that one can't switch the tabs via these gestures. The commands "next tab (by order)" and "previous tab (by order)" work though.
Thanks in advance for any reply clarifying what went wrong here and how to solve it... -

@luetage tabs 1 trough 8 can be selected as direct targets (but with the same buggy behaviour).
Can confirm version 1.14.1077.60 (Linux) works (new test install on live system). -
@luetage Sorry, it's called "Switch to tab 1".
-
@sanon all (9) positional switch to tab [1…8, last] gestures revert to originating tab.
Identical behaviour on Linux and Windows.
The guestures successfully initiate a tab focus switch to the right target.
But part of the the switching code does some unwanted/destructive additional work…@gwen-dragon do we have a bug report tracking this regression (≥V1.15) yet?

If I'm not wrong Vivaldi's stable version has received two updates since I wrote this here but the issue still exists. Any idea why the team is not interested in correcting something so obvious?

@sanon Bugs are not fixed in the Stable version unless they are critical or security related.
Bugs are fixed first in the Snapshots, then get integrated into the next Stable version, which will be 1.16.
Use the Snapshots if you want the latest features and bug fixes, but also the latest bugs and regressions. As always, backup your data to a safe place whether using "Stable" versions or "Snapshot" versions. Remember Murphy's law.

@pesala
Hey, thanks for the clarification...
A question relating to the snaphot then: Would it be ok. if I install a snaphot version while still using a stable version? My stable version is 32bit. If I install a 64 bit snapshot version would they both run smoothly using the same profile info? -
@sanon
Hi, you can if you use Advanced during installation and install Vivaldi Snapshot at different location.Cheers, mib

@sanon said in "Switch to Tab 1/last tab" mouse gestures have broken down:
If I install a 64 bit snapshot version would they both run smoothly using the same profile info?
You should install the Snapshot version as a "Standalone installation" using the Advanced Installation options. Put it in any convenient folder such as C:\Vivaldi. The profile will then be in C:\Vivaldi\User Data\
The profile will be independent from the Stable installation in Program Files (86), so you can experiment freely without breaking your Stable installation. Check for updates also works independently, and either version can be set as your default browser. You can even run them both at the same time on the same monitor or on separate monitors if you have two.

@mib2berlin @Pesala
Thank you guys.
I have installed the snaphot version as a standalone per your instructions. Also copied my profile info from the stable's folder to the snapshot's. Now, everything looks, feels and works as expected. -
