Update vivaldi? how?

+1
@Olli noted on 29 January about a "first update eta next week" in another thread ( https://vivaldi.net/forum/vivaldi-browser/991-keyboard-shortcut-madness#10880 ). I agree that it would be useful to know how users will obtain that and whether it will preserve any user-settings/data (like bookmarks) from the current Tech Preview version or simply over-write everything. -
Is there a "About" page in Tech Preview Vivaldi?
I think Opera Developer uses that page for updating - when you check the about page it checks version and if there is any updates available. -
Hey guys
We do not yet have auto-update, so we will offer a new build you will have to download manually and install over.
We will start working on auto-update, it's a feature we do want to add -
Cool, will we need to uninstall the previous version first or can we simply just install the new version "over top" the current?
Very good question. And - if it will be possible - will the "overwrite install" preserve bookmarks, settings etc?
-
You will be able to install over and it keeps the profile yes
-
Thank you! :cheer: That makes the Tech Preview much more useful for me, since I can preserve the settings and bookmarks I've been adding when the next version arrives by whatever mechanism that will be.

Sweet! Thank you ..

Great, but don't forget to make it optional. Don't force updates on users without their consent like Chrome and Opera does without respecting for their users. Some people may want to update manually for what ever reason so the choices should be there:
1. Auto update automatically (updates on its own without user interaction)
2. Notify of new updates but don't update (for updating manually)
3. Turn updates off (users that may need to disable it for what ever reasons they have)I would also prefer a check for updates in the menu rather than the About how Opera/Chrome does it or an option to check it manually.
-
Disabling auto-update is also a good idea and should be easily doable as they have yet to even implement it in so giving the option should be easy to set now.
Hopefully that happens, as there nowadays can be updates that break things etc. so some people might prefer not to update everytime it gets update. -
Some people might be on metered connections, auto update is terrible for such.
-
I like when my browser tells me that an update is available but it's still my choice when and if I download that update.

HOW will you notify us all that a new VERSION is ready?? As it stands now as far as I can tell we have to go to .com page and see what is downloading there. Are there any other BETTER choices or solutions.
Also rather than SKINS,colors, beauty functions I think they can wait for now. What is REALLY needed are bug fixes and features for now.

Make speed dial for the "Featured Blogs" section and check that every week, they are trying to make the updates weekly now.
