Bug: Scrollbar Following Cursor When It Shouldn't
-
- Often, when a page is loading (i.e. expanding vertically), single-clicking the empty space on the scrollbar causes the page to scroll to the point clicked, rather than a single [page up] or [page down].
- Hovering the cursor over the scrollbar, without clicking, can result in the slider snapping to and following the cursor's position.
I've experienced the second behavior in Chrome, but the first seems exclusive to Vivaldi.
-
@ouroboros4545 Which version are you using?
-
@ayespy 1.15.1147.42 (Stable channel) (32-bit)
-
@ouroboros4545 OK. At this time, I can't reproduce either of these behaviors, but I will keep an eye out. Some scrolling bugs have been fixed in recent snapshots and internally, and it may be that the behavior that is bothering you could be addressed in the next Stable version.
-
@ayespy I can confirm these two bugs with my snapshot 1.16.1183.3 (Official Build) (32-bit) and Win 8.1
It frequently (but not always) happens with PDF-documents displayed in the browser, as I observed.I hope, it will be fixed in an upcoming snaphot, since its been bothering me too since snapshot 1.15
-
@ayespy I can confirm the very serious bug on 3 different laptops which makes using Vivaldi as the main browser currently impossible.

New 1.16.1206.3 to test.
High-speed automatic scrolling is a pretty big issue on 1.15 here. I originally thought it was a hardware problem with the mouse.
-
I find that this bad behavior doesn't only exist when scrolling web pages, but also when scrolling within a box within a web page. This is starting to make Vivaldi difficult to use.
Seeming like the choices are to stay with v 1.14 and deal with error messages every time I open the browser or deal with malfunctioning scrolling in 1.15 and beyond. Or switch browsers.
Is there any indication that this problem is being worked on?
-
Hopefully someone in the know will chime in with that, but what do you mean by 1.14 error messages (separate issue, but I"m curious, as I was on that version until quite recently)?
-
@rseiler Sorry for the lack of explanation. Another bug in 1.15 (I have filed a bug report, vb 40016) is that when using Saved Sessions, and closing a Saved Session from from top right "close" X, the original, left open window gets all the pinned tabs mulitplied. This requires unpinning each of the excess tabs in order to close it. Closing the Saved Session from the drop down box does not elicit this behavior.
In going back to 1.14 : this gets an error message when opening vivaldi, about opening with a profile from a newer version.
It becomes a question of which annoyance i want to deal with the least.
If the scrolling bug and saved session bug can be fixed, I could use the newest version without reminders of the problems.

Changelog doesn't indicate any fix for scrollbar issue.
-
is there a bug report number for the scrolling issue?
-
@astro46 VB-39039 - scrollbar doesn't lose focus when releasing mouse...
-
VB-39663 "Event "onMousebuttonRelease" randomly ignored on scrollbars" should be equivalent
-
@lucius There are 17 duplicate reports of the bug. I see now that the master bug of all these duplicates is VB-39039 - scrollbar doesn't lose focus when releasing mouse... which had been reported fixed briefly, but has now been reopened.

please, fix this very annoing bug soon!

@carlonike The developers will do so as soon as they are able. It is not being ignored, and it is not easy to fix.

Why is it difficult to fix? Just look at where he presented himself for the first time and see what changes have been made compared to the previous version. I don't think it's that difficult!

If it was just a couple of lines changed in a 1000 lines sources it would be easy indeed. You're not taking into account that there are thousands of changes in a several millions lines in thousands of sources, and most of the times, in sources that have not even been touched by Vivaldi team but by Chromium.
The team is not big and they have their schedule, some stuff have higher priority and the bugs will be taken care of in due time. -
