Automatically restart after a crash – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.16.1195.3
-
@pesala confirmed working also by starting with shift-f3
-
@pesala Sorry, maybe I was not clear enough. The original regression was never about F3 not working anymore. It was about F3 working only once and not auto-repeating when you hold it. This does work again now. But Shift-F3 still works only once (at least for me) and does not auto-repeat when I hold it. Is that different for you?

When I want to comment about a snapshot or reply to a post, I can not (and could not for a long time now) reply on the blog page (e.g. https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/automatically-restart-after-a-crash/) because it will forever ask me to log in again and again. However from the forum page (https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27737/automatically-restart-after-a-crash-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1-16-1195-3/70?page=4) I can easily post and reply. Any known fix for this?

@wolfram true, Shift-F3 doesn't autorepeat. I reckon that some keys autorepeat has been disabled when the fix for F1 (help) autorepeat was introduced because some people complained that keeping F1 pressed made appear multiple help pages.
Probably the fix was not the best choice and introduced a regression in other keys. -
@wolfram That's not how I understand the bug fix:
F3 (Find in Page) Cycle no longer possible (VB-40504)
There is nothing there about autorepeat, though I can confirm that holding Shift+F3 does not autorepeat, while F3 does.
I can also confirm that autorepeat does work for F3+Shift on Vivaldi 1.15 Final.
-
@pesala I agree that it's not clear from the bug description but I believe that this is what the fix is about because that is how I reported it last week (https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/crash-fix-for-linux-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1-16-1183-3/#post-213048)
-
@wolfram The autorepeat bug that you reported in the blog is obviously not fixed, so it must be a different bug number.
-
@pesala Why is it not fixed? Holding F3 did not autorepeat in 1.16.1183.3 and now it does in 1.16.1195.3. So somebody fixed that. It's just that the fix is not complete because it also has to be done for Shift-F3.

Shared! Thanks for the snapshot. It was way overdue for me. The last snapshot was nothing but trouble. I don't know what the devs did but this one is stable enough to use. In both the last snapshot surfing the web was hit or miss. When it was a hit I could visit the forums. When it was a miss pages were slow loading, scrolling with the mouse was a no-go and videos almost never loaded.
As for the shift+f3 issue, not here. Glad to see the "crash restart" fixed.
-
@vividal What scroll issue are you talking about? Is it the up/down left/right keys? If it's the keys underneath the right side shift key I can't reproduce it. Don't know if that helps. To be honest I use the mouse wheel to scroll.
-
Still no right-drag (VB-36002).
It's pretty annoying that I can't use my favorite browser on my favorite website. -
@para-noid presumably the scroll issue that many people have had since a couple of months ago - namely that if you click the mouse on a scroll bar it will not "let go" afterwards... So you want to move the page a half-screen to continue reading but then it will unexpectedly shoot to the bottom of the page when you move the mouse again.
-
@mossman In that case it's been hit or miss for me. I wasn't sure on what it was so I did not want to state categorically If it had happened to me. It has but sporadically.
