Interacting with Reddit embedded videos causes Vivaldi to completely freeze
-
Here's an example
When I mouse over the player controls or try to interact with it in some way, Vivaldi completely stops responding for me.
-
@mluck94 The example video works for me with no problem at all (hovering, stopping and starting it again)
Tested with Vivaldi 1.15.1125.3 (32bit) on win 7 (64bit)Please list the following:
- What Windows version do you use?
- What Vivaldi Version do you use? (you can look this up in the first line at
vivaldi://about
) - What extensions do you have installed? ("Ctrl+Shift+E")
- What security software do you use?

More specifically, the freeze occurs when you try to interact with the scrubbing bar or whatever it's called. Playing and pausing alone seems to be okay.

The freeze appears in 1.14.1077.60 Stable and 1.15.1137.3 Snapshot.
Is this bug: VB-31952 "[Media] Reddit Videos Freeze Vivaldi"
They are working on it.Good to know, thank you. Is it possible to track the bug you have listed, or is this not publicly viewable?

I just posted the same problem. This happens at least since last year and not always. But almost every time. Only on Reddit videos.
-
@gwen-dragon Actually I have the problem since I can remember using Reddit with Vivaldi. It is not related to a specific version since this always happens to me for months now and I updated Vivaldi several times and multiple times since last year.

Issues like these should be considered high priority. I hope it will be fixed soon. All we can do as users is bring attention to it on the forums and in bug reports.

Same here.
- Windows 10 17133.73
- Vivaldi 1.15.1147.29 x64
- Ublock, windscribe (not in use), lastpass, pocket.
- Windows Defender
HW : Xeon X3470 + GF 660Ti
It just plays the video very chunky and when trying to click anywhere over the video it just freezes the whole browser until the page is unloaded.
-
6 months later and this is still not fixed. I stopped using Reddit with Vivaldi for now. Its so annoying to have the whole tab freeze or crash.

No. But great to see they are finally working on it. I hope this makes it to stable eventually, as this is an issue Vivaldi has since last year.

Sure it will, but the next stable may be months away yet. If it bugs you, install the Snapshot as a standalone version.

It seems they included this fix in the latest stable patch. At least from reading the change log.

This bug never went away, still reddit videos will freeze the browser about 50% of the time for me.
