Vivaldi Future?
-
Hi,
I like the overall progress Vivaldi is making, but after a couple of years, I see the number of users 'stuck' shy of a million. And Jon said in an interview that it needs somewhere around 5 million users. When does Vivaldi plan to become profitable, and how long can it keep going on with the boss footing the bill? I really hope for the best, but really wouldn't like my daily driver browser to disappear pretty much overnight.
Thanks for your input.

@nlatin Where do you take your numbers from?
-
Vivaldi.com landing page.
-
@nlatin All I see there is "A Million Ways to Customize Things." Nothing about the number of users.
-
The truth is Vivaldi is relatively secretive about the number of users, we simply don't know anything current. But yeah, Vivaldi is very likely not self-sufficient yet.
-
I don't know why they don't solicit donations. There has to be quite a number of users who would gladly help support the effort voluntarily. The current revenue model projects just $1 per user-year, as I recall, and that's not much. Considering how much the browser is used, many should be willing to give even a small amount yearly.

@nlatin The information is outdated. I don't know about users, but community members were over 200k at the start of the year.
-
So basically @luetage you don't think Vivaldi is going anywhere in the coming years?
-
@paul1149 yearly? I'd very happily do it monthly. (I have so many other monthly subscriptions, a small amount more would not impact my wallet).
-
@luetage There are currently only 111,071 Community Members 3,702x30 + 11
-
@pesala Yeah, I thought so too, but it's wrong. The number of community members is equivalent to the number of accounts on
vivaldi.com
. But not all of them activate their account (log in) toforum.vivaldi.net
, that's why there is a discrepancy. You are taking the number from the forum, Vivaldi is taking the number from the main site. -
