Disable new functionality "Add Active Tab" on bookmark folders
-
I just installed the new 1.15.1147.36 version and I discovered a new feature which is the menu 'add active tab' when left clicking on a folder from the bookmark bar.
I find this really annoying and useless to me. I used to click on the first item as my favorite bookmark in the folder... Plus, we can add the current tab to the folder simply by draging the left icon of the url input.Well, just to ask if I can disable this or not?
Thanks!Kapcash

@kapcash As far as I'm aware, no. You can't disable it. There is a feature request that englobes your request, if you like you can upvote it here : https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24123/allow-editing-of-menus

@kapcash You are not the only one:

https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/26931/move-add-active-tab-below-the-bookmarks/7
I know everyone has different workflows, but I still think it's redundant and quite the overkill:
- You can drag the URL into the folder
- You can use the bookmark icon in the address bar
- You can right-click on the page to add the bookmark
- You can use keyboard shortcuts and/or mouse gestures
- Now in the latest version you also have the "Add Active Tab" action in the start menu
Cheers.

I don't even know why it's there. It does nothing at all when I click on it.
-
@joelyoung It is there because it was there in Old Opera for a long time. When you click it, it adds the bookmark to the folder. The position depends on the sort order that you have selected.
-
@pesala Ah, I see now! LOL - whenever I clicked it I was expecting to see a new tab appear. Now I see I have a whole lot of new bookmarks in the folders from testing this feature. hahaha... I'm so dumb sometimes.
-
@joelyoung LOL xD
-
Thing that jacked me up is it used to be at the bottom, not moved to the top, it has ruined my conditioned work flow. I keep adding bookmarks I didn't want.
If not a disable - a 'position' selection? -
@alabasterclay Putting it at the bottom would be the worst solution.
Some users may actually use it frequently, so that change would annoy them.
Those who don't use it or don't like it — and there seem to be plenty of both — will have to wait for the option to Edit the menus. I don't imagine it would ever be moved or removed in the default setup as it matches what Old Opera does, which is part of the remit for the Vivaldi developers.
-
It was at the bottom until 15 for me (Win7). Have been seeing that for others it has been at the top, which is odd (I presumed Mac peeps). I don't mind it so much, especially since its more responsive in the bookmark marking -- in 14 you could 'add tab' and then it would take another action before it would highlight on the address bar (again, for me, any ways).
Since the move it has been a headache -- but -- adapt, survive! ...while hating it.

I find it very useful, I use this function a lot! But I understand that some do not like it.

Yes please, need an option to turn this thing off!
-
I'm also finding this change of position rather frustrating, and have a number of accidentally added bookmarks to prove it.
-
I'd like to add my voice to this too, I absolutely hate this change. It causes me constantly to do accidental bookmarks whenever I want to call up the first entry of a bookmark in one of my Folders and it is also confusing to have to look at this entry and then past it. I beg of you to revert it until customization is ready. I perceive Vivaldi as a browser that prides itself in plentiful Customization, and behavior like this definitely should be part of that since it seriously impacts usability for some of us.
In addition I'm not sure what the benefit of this button is over the regular bookmarking method. You can add something to a folder slightly faster, that's true. But if you have many folders and your target folder is at the deep end (past what the Bookmark bar displays) the old way is still faster anyway isn't it. Just because it was in Opera does not necessarily make it a good choice to copy. But I digress, a simple toggle would solve the annoyance for everyone either way - so please sort this out asap for your power users.

As you said, quick to do the action of adding a bookmark, I think it's exactly for that, a much faster way to add a bookmark to a specific folder.

Honestly I do not think so, I still find this option quicker. Image
So far I've never added a bookmark by accident, maybe because I got used to this option very fast, but I understand that some do not like it, I hope the team does not remove this option, as they already said, an option to disable and activate would please the who do not like this option. -
Ugh, just make this new feature optional please. There's no way you can claim this is 'quicker' than a good ol' Ctrl+D. I don't want to sound too petty, but this is yet another step backwards for what was becoming such a promising browser- guess I'll be going back to Firefox for now haha.
I mean come on Vivaldi, I thought you were good at catering to power users.

@MasterLeo29
I also wish to hide this “Add active tab”, completely and I think that such a big feature as editable menus will hardly ever come.
But I think an option to hide “Add active tab” would be very very much more easy. -

It is, if you're adding a bookmark to a specific folder on the Bookmarks Bar.
With the Add Bookmark dialogue you first have to select the folder; with the Bookmarks Bar you just open the folder and click on Add Active Tab. With the Bookmarks Menu, some navigation is required, but using Access Keys it is arguably easier than finding the desired folder in the Add Bookmark dialogue. I'd like an option to disable or hide the "add active tab" option. It appears at the bottom of EVERY active bookmark folder, it is annoying and not necessary.
Some user may like it, but sounds like plenty don't. But at least give user the option to show / hide it.
