Some Video Won't Play
-
Linux Manjaro 17.1.7 Vivaldi 1.14 Widevine Plugin Enabled
Some videos display and play with no problems (e.g. youtube) but this site won't. I just get a black screen with no message of any kind. It plays with no problems on Firefox.

Your video link has the folllowing a message:
This program can only be viewed in Canada.
Do you have more examples?
-
By the Way, I got the same message using FFox.
-
@lamarca This is hilarious! I tried to give you an example of a PBS program but I got a message saying that their programs aren't available in my region (Canada) because of rights restrictions.
I did try Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and got this message:

We are getting nowhere.

No, we are not getting nowhere. Both of the Canadian sites load and play without any problem on this same computer using Firefox browser. Ergo the problem has to do with Vivaldi in some way.
-
If you are sure it's Vivaldi fault, then report the problem (see the instructions below) and post the bug number here:

No, I'm not sure. I'm not a programmer nor a developer. I'm just going by a process of elimination and deduction. The websites are working because the videos do play on Firefox. My computer, using exactly the same internet connection, is functioning properly because when I use Firefox browser the videos play correctly.
I suppose there may be something happening at both websites in that they don't recognize or connect with Vivaldi but I would attribute that also to Vivaldi for not making itself recognizable to a mainstream video source.
The thought process seems inevitably to lead back to Vivaldi.
-
@llewellen In Vivaldi, do you have Strict Site Isolation turned on?
-
@llewellen Once i changed my VPN server from the one i was using [in NSW, how's that for irony, given the show you wish to watch] to one in Canada, it plays just fine in my V-SS:

I asked you two simple things:
a) contact both websites and tell them you are a Canadian citizen, which is a prerequisite to access their content, however the videos don't play.
b) as you said (more than one time) Vivaldi is unable to play the video, unlike the others web browser, I asked you to report the problem using Report a Bug.Let me quote

We are getting nowhere. You are not a Dev, one more reason to report a bug.
Edit: We are getting nowhere.

@lamarca Excuuuse me!
The two Canadian sites are not blocking my access. They're telling me that they can't technically respond to my request when it is made from within Vivaldi. They respond without incident and without requiring me to tell them I'm a Canadian when the request is made from within Firefox.
You asked me if I was sure it was a Vivaldi problem. I told you that I was not sure.

@ayespy Where is it please?
-
How can this be a V-SS bug when i have specifically demonstrated that the target website streams just fine in my V-SS? Ie, there is something else going on IMO, with the OP's setup.
Whoops, just realised that OP is using Stable, whereas i tested in Snapshot. So now, whilst writing this post, i paused to test in Stable, & it also plays fine there.

No probs. We are here to assist people.

Is it the reply of the web site support?

Strict Site is disabled: (and always was)
-
@steffie My setup and Firefox run both sites just fine. My setup and Vivaldi don't.
